Marvel has Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers, and the Hulks. Whereas DC has Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.
Each of Marvel's superheros has one, two, or, in extreme cases, three super powers. Spider-Man has his spider sense and wall crawling and super strength & agility, Wolverine has claws and a healing factor, and if you don't know what the Hulk's power is, you shouldn't even be on here.
Whereas one specific DC superhero caught my eye on this issue. Superman. These are the powers (that I know of) of Superman: flight, super strength, invulnerability, super speed, x-ray vision, super hearing, super intelligence and breath that can not only freeze your bollocks off, but also blow them half way round the world afterwards.
The best characters are characters we can empathize with, meaning they have problems like us: Spider-Man has several issues with girls, Betty Ross' dad doesn't like Banner (to an extreme level), the X-Men are outcasts of society, Tony Stark has a brain tumor, and Hank Pym and Jan Van Dyne have marital problems.
Whereas Superman seems to be able to pretty much do whatever the hell he wants. He has no problems people can relate to. Remember last time a bald guy kidnapped your girlfriend? I doubt it. The last time someone came at you with a chunk of Kryptonite? Even more so.
While there are similar character types over the two universes (Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark), there are no similar characters as a whole, as the majority of DC characters have outlandish problems like "The Joker just blew up the hospital!", and Marvel characters have problems like "MJ just had a miscarriage.", which, unfortunately, quite a few people can relate to, although, to be fair, if you can relate to "The Joker just blew up the hospital!", your life is either the most amazing or terrible there is.
