She's often portrayed like a bitch and the new 52 didn't help with the whole ''Truth'' arc. One of my favourite depiction of her comes from Smallville where she was confident but also friendly to Clark.
Batman: Year One = The beginning of the Bat and a great story
Batman: Hush = Gorgeous to look at and a good introduction to the mytho
Batman: The killing Joke = My favorite story with Batman. This is the ultimate showdown between Batman and Joker, here you'll see just how twisted Joker is.
Batman: Earth One = An alternate but mostly similar universe. Alfred is way more badass now. There's a cinematic vibe in that comic, not quite the Batman we usually are familiar with.
Start with these comics, I have more suggestions but nothing really starter-friendly.
''I was surprised because that’s the thesis of Superman for me, that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences.'' - Zack Snyder
Actors are contracted to read the source material for their movies. An actor can't work without having read the book being adapted, for comics, it's different since there's thousands of them.
It's cool to see actors who are already fan of the their characters like Nicholas Cage or Ben Affleck.
