I know the movie happened back in 2004 and I haven't really checked to see if this question was asked before, but couldn't Storm have stopped the flood in X2 with her wind control or water control or something.

I like to believe that there was a scene that didn't make the final cut of the movie, wherein Destiny approaches Storm and warns her of the impending travesty of X3. Storm was deliberately holding back (both with the flood and in the earlier scene with the missiles), in an attempt to kill off the entire team (herself included) and thus spare the world from having to endure such cinematic horror. After all, isn't this what a REAL heroine would do?

If she did there would be a hole in the story and thus we wouldn't have gotten our first glimpse of Phoenix and a black woman would have been the hero.Hollywood can't have that.

Having watched X2 yesterday it did occur to me that a lot of the mutants on the ship could have banded together and had a better outcome than Jean going all martyr.

Yeah she kinda could have using a funnel cloud to suck up all the water.  But again the writers don't think like that.  She definitely has the best feats in all the movies hands down.  Did anyone see her deleted scene fight against the brotherhood?  Unfortunately it was cut from the film but it's too dope she made a flood of water rain down from the sky and constantly stuck them all with lightning!!  Too bad!!  Magnus is my second favorite mutant and I think in terms of feats he would be next there after.  She also could have flash frozen the water.

I'm not sure if Storm had enough control over her hurricane force winds to stop that kind of force. The tornadoes she manifested barely threw some planes off course - hundreds of tons of water would have been too much for her. Due to lack of experience, Iceman probably would not have been able to freeze all that water before being overwhelmed and killed/drowned, and his powers would be the most natural way to counter an attack like that. The X-Men were definitely powered down for the movies in general, but of all of them, that type of focused counter-force is something that a telekinetic like Jean would be best at. The early X movies were trying to ground themselves in real physics as much as possible, and a result is that some of the ridiculous things they have performed in the comics would not be believable and would have negatively impacted their vision for the movie while some things they should have been capable of (i.e. Storm should have been able to fly to handle the jets, Jean should have been able to use psychic attacks to incapacitate some opponents, etc.) never happened or looked clumsy. Heck, we even had a scene in "First Class", which was a better movie than the first four by far, in which a woman made out of diamond was almost crushed by a golden bedframe when in reality, gold is soft enough to be bent out of shape or cut by diamond very easily, which goes to show the writing could go both ways even in a good X-Men movie. And then, after the movies have been released and fans debate about what is canon or not, we hear in the Director's Commentary how much more awesome some of these scenes could have been before they changed their minds. It's very annoying.  
 
And yet they still find a way to cram in a Sentinel, in one of the worst CGI moments of the entire trilogy for no reason.

But it was Halle Berry's name that was plastered all over billboards and advertizements. Highly disappointing to see she ended up having so little role.

@mfundo: There is nothing wrong with Vance's comment. The guy was just speaking the truth. Storm was the magical mutant negro and would have messed up the story if she jumped ship taking over "the hero that used their brain" role and leaving Jean Grey along with Wolverine as the magical mutant caucasians. Hollywood would have a riot.

The accent is important. If you are gonna act a role, then act the role. Don't half-ass it. Plus the moment when those pilots started firing missiles. Trying to scare them off went out the window.

She still could have summon a lightning strike to hit the missiles. For example, 
 
Storm: Jean, do something useful and hold the Blackbird steady. There are firing missiles at us.
Everyone in the blackbird: Oh No! We are gonna die! Somebody do something! This is your fault, Pyro!
Storm: Everyone Chill the #$% out! I got this! 
 
Storm looks out the window sees the missiles flying the blackbird, Storm's eyes turn white. A gust of wind is felt on the blackbird. Wolverine looks around confused. Jean Grey still acting like she don't know what she is doing. Nightcrawler continues praying. Bobby and Rogue squeezes each other's hand. Pyro pouts. 
 
Storm waits a few seconds for a more dramatic effect then Shazam. Missile blows up. Close up on Storm's eye looking at the next missile wait a few more seconds...Shazam. Second misslie explodes. Storms's eye turn back to normal. Storm turns around a poses for the Xmen. 
 
Wolverine: Wow, that' some display of power. 
Storm: BOOYAH!

All of those great points I missed and noone (I'm specially disppointed in Aqua11500) spotted one of the most obvious flaw with Storm is her accent. Storms sounded too Hollywood and didnt have that erotic eastern hemisphere accent she was suppose to have. At least in the 90s cartoon Storm was somewhat convincing her upbringing in Africa.
 
Another thing that made me go "WTF?" was the scene when they were camping and Mystique goes into Logan's tent and after they made out then Logan pushes her off she starts morphing in different people then she stops at Stryker still giving a seductive look saying "What is it you really want?" I looked over to my girlfriend and whispered to her "Did this movie just hint Logan knows all there is to know about the Crying Game?"

 

Why was Rogue in Xmen movies, she did nothing in x2 or X3 except make ugly faces? 
 
Pyro attacking cops and the cops not shooting back. Yeah Logan get pwned to the shot in the head but soon as Pyro blasted the first set of cops the other cops should have opened fire.  It was a minority all of the cops all the cops would have opened fire using shotguns. 
 
 
Magneto getting stomped in a self-righteous debate by Logan in X1. Blasphepmy!  
Magneto leaving Mystique on the floor butt-naked walking saying "She was so beautiful." The lady looked the same, aint nothing some blue makeup and a red cosplay wig can't fix.  
 
Storm could have landed the Blackbird without Magento's help. The lady just summoned the same tornadoes that starred in Day after Tomorrow and she can't conjure up enough wind to land a jet?  
 
The scene being chased by Jets why summon tornadoes, Why not just summon some lightning strikes on the Jets or missiles?  
 
Since when Pyslocke from X3 turns invisble like the dude from the TICK? Ya'll now who I'm talking that cute asian chick with the dye purple hair hanging with Arclight and Spike  
 
Also the missing deleted scene when Logan goes to Jean Grey and comments about the "Display of Power" and Storm rudeley interrupts saying "What display of power? The %^&%ing plane still got hit. It was a display of Epic Fail. Tjhe only display of power she can do is chuck cereal bowls at Cyclops. Both of you really suck and I can't believe I have to give up screentime for this. At least with me I got beat up by a dude who can move like Darth Maul. Mr Scary Weapon X gets beat up by a girls and this one can't even levitate a book without getting a headache but she is a class 5 mutant. I'm gonna get drunk with the Magnetic Jew and Smurfette."

Screw Storm fixing the giant wave they had Iceman ! if ever there was a mutant you would want to help when a giant wave was coming it would be him. Instant stopping of the water

It has been said that Singer states that none of them we're powerful enough in the use of their powers to stop that much rushing water with the X-Men of Jean who had advanced (unconfirmed, possibly in the directors commentary?)

X2 was my favorite, too much Wolverine/Jean ish in the 3rd movie for my taste.  Storm's haircut didn't help either. 

There's always a what if or why didn't this happen in movies.  Would of loved to see Singer's version of X3 though.
