I'm glad that DC's big attempt at revitalizing everything worked.
whoa whoa whoa......one swallow (the bird) does not a summer make Moosey-san
in other words, lets at least see what the rest of the year brings.
Also: their objective was partly to bring in people who didn't already buy comics. Being top of the charts means they sold more than other publishers, not necessarily that they significantly increased the number of people buying books.
I hope it did work, but this could equally be them stealing readers from Marvel, or Marvel's readership declining. Or it could be people like me, who only used to read a handful of DC titles, taking a chance on a bunch of heavily-marketed new-reader-friendly books.
Has Superman's ability to keep his identity secret never been explained? I always assumed he had some alien technology/innate ability that made him unrecognisable.
Spidey's got to rely on the Venn diagram of people with a malicious reason to find him (e.g. wanting to hurt him indirectly through his loved ones, but not wanting to fight him directly) and having the means to do so (having all of the information you mentioned and making the same assumptions) being small. Anyone who meets those criteria then has to have the resources to do something with Spidey's identity. They've also
So you need a villain or group who:
Is a good detective/lucky enough to have the information fall into their lap
Has a good motivation for hurting him
Can't/won't fight him directly
Has the means to hurt him indirectly without him finding out first
Isn't scared of him or the law retaliating
And as someone who's had grey hairs since 15, thanks for assuming I must be at least 45. :p
@TheBlackHood: I pointed out an amusing difference between the quality of the signs in real life and in Captain America. You turned a comment on English and sign-making skills into an attack on a group's intelligence so you could build a straw man of the left in America to cast it as a member of the thought police. I'm not American, didn't express any political views, and don't confuse writing skills with intelligence.
That panel is a flattering picture of Tea Partiers. Photos I've seen show poorer sign-making and English Language skills. Also, that cowardice from Marvel has alienated me.
I'm going to guess any racists, homophobes, and fascists who read V For Vendetta felt alienated by it. Complete hatred of an ideology you hold is more alienating than praise of one you don't. Especially as Moore's view has a lot in common with mainstream politics in the West; the basic idea that "everyone should be the masters of their own destinies" is something most of us can agree on.
Lots of those are already out on Comixology. I guess this just means exclusive to Amazon as a single purchase, whereas others sell each issue individually. Very dishonest use of the term "exclusive".
