Werewolves

Everybody loves and the mythology following around them:
A man cursed to shift during the light of the full moon, forever bond as a Servant of the moon from his blood to the bloodline of his last descedent

Ways to end this 'curse' the use of silver as a weakness, but why silver?:

According to some silver is the earthly representation of the moon and only the moon can harm a servant of the moon

So here's the real question: how to reinvent the weakness towards silver versus the traditional method of burning their flesh

Does it identify them as werewolves from ordinary people

Does it slow down or prevent the change?

Is it only harmful when straight to the heart

Does it offer protection from a werewolf attack?

Any ideas or suggestions that could reinvent the old myth with the new?

Origin of the Vampire Race

The origin of the vampire race is clouded in mystery, but what is known is that Caine was the first vampire, the source and that all purebloods are descended from him and through them the rest of the vampire race was created. Being the first and oldest Caine is far more powerful then any other vampire created since, Caine is pureblood vampire (an ancient)  who is one of the old ones the first. As such he is unique and was born a day walker (a trait that any vampire created directly from his blood shares), unlike the rest of his kind his heart continues to beat due to the unique nature of his creation as a vampire. He dates back over 6000 years (possibly 7,000), he was born in Sumeria as the last heir to the throne during a time of great conflict between Sumeria and the Pre-Egyptian people of early Kemet. Not much else is known about his past as to how he became a vampire.
