So... I'm confused. Is the edition with which he's having such a problem different than the one that came out in 2005? The listing on the DC Comics website says that it's a "New Printing," so it's a little unclear if it's any different than the one that's been on shelves for seven years [for the hardcover; the paperback came out in 2007].

I don't know; I've had the paperback edition on my bookshelf for a good long while now, and I had no problems with how it looked or anything. On the contrary, actually; I think the artwork holds up quite nicely in that edition. Then again, I didn't draw the thing, nor have I read the original editions from the 80s, so I obviously don't have quite that level of personal attachment to the artwork.

The listing says it's a "new edition of the deluxe hardcover designed by Chip Kidd," so maybe Mazzucchelli should take it up with him?

EDIT:Apparently, it is different. Or at least, the cover art is different. Now I can see what he was talking about when he said they made the cover to look like the Blu-Ray/DVD box art.

I love how when many masked heroes put on a mask, they magically get white eyes. Batman, Green Lantern, Wolverine.

I often wonder what many would look like without the iconic whites, or even what the batman movies would look like with them?

It was eventually at least visually explained that the "white eye" look that Batman has is a result of lenses in the eyes of his mask.

Depending on the artist and situation, he is sometimes shown in a "battle-damaged/ravaged" state where the lenses are broken, like Greg Capullo does here:

This is one of the many reasons why Chris Samnee is my favorite artist: He managed to draw the Black Widow without a huge pair of breasts. Thank you, Mr. Samnee.

What is TRULY awful? Two words: Chuck Austen. His entire X-Men run was plagued with terrible storytelling.

He wrote that Angel rebuilt Iceman's body out of urine. OUT OF URINE. Let's not get into the fact that a human bladder could not hold an entire body's volume of urine, but come on. ANGEL PEED A NEW BODY FOR ICEMAN. My God.

Also Cyclop's hand.

Think of it this way: At least when autumn comes around, he'll be able to rake the leaves with that hand. Or maintain a zen garden.

AFTERTHOUGHT: Wait, how can the Avengers fight the X-Men if Cable will have already killed them all in X-Sanction? Oh, you mean that the Avengers will probably all be alright and Cable will go back to shopping for more ridiculous leg pouches throughout the timestream? Thanks a lot, Loeb.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is there a precedence for vampires being a problem for the X-Men specifically? I didn't read the storyline, but was there some sort of plot device that revealed that vampires were really an off-shoot of mutants or something? Otherwise, why didn't they do an "Avengers vs. Vampires" type of deal that had this vampire problem affect the larger Marvel Universe?

Honestly, I felt like the Curse of the Mutants story seemed incredibly forced and was only done because vampires were the "in" thing. Hey, look. It's Dracula. And he has a ponytail and some silly bright red armor. That's... cool, I guess, but why would I want Dracula in my X-Men comic? So Jubilee's a vampire now. Great. Why am I supposed to care, especially since nobody had used Jubilee effectively in years?

what is TT

It's a verbal tic that Morrison gave Damian; it's kind of an alternative to a scoff. I believe he also gave Bruce one as well, though I don't remember if it's the same "-TT-" or something slightly different. If you've been following Damian in Batman & Robin and things, Evan Shaner's drawing is probably hilarious to you. I know I laughed at it.

This is going to sound really dumb, but I really like Nick Bradshaw's inclusion of fingerless gloves to Cyclops's costume.

Aside from that, I have no idea what the hell to even make of around 95% of this image, but I'm actually kind of ready for Jean Grey to come back.
