Superman and Wonder Woman: A marriage made in heaven or hell?

No doubt we will have all seen this week’s big DC announcement that Superman and Wonder Woman will become an item in Justice League #12. The aim here, as Jim Lee put it, was to ‘raise a few eyebrows’. Obviously, the other aim is to raise sales, which is always a good thing.

This time however, there are significant differences:-

· This is the ‘New 52’ universe.

· Justice League is still five years behind both the Superman and Wonder Woman books.

· There is no history with Lois Lane.

So this time, this relationship will probably be more significant than any previous ‘flings’ they had in the previous continuity. Plus, it makes perfect sense; people often get close with the people they work with, and for the time being, the Justice League only has each other. Until they go their apparent separate ways. Anything can happen in five years after all. They have an odd way of teasing each other though, as seen below. This one didn’t start with a kiss.....

My only gripe? I’d rather see this:-

Than this:-

One thing is for certain, with the quality of Jim Lee’s art, I have no problems in seeing this relationship develop.

@Agent_Prince: Is Justice League still set in the past? I thought it jumped to the present after the first arc. I'm not sure that I am a fan of the WW and Supes pairing. I firmly believe that Clark and Lois will eventually get together in the New 52, and having a relationship with a teammate could impact the way the Supes and WW interact in high pressure situations. At least WW and Batman didn't hook up, I can't see Diana being able to focus on the task if she has to constantly worry that Bruce will trip and die. With Superman she doesn't have to be concerned with his well being, and vice versa for Superman.

woah woah not a marriage, just a courtship i'd rather see the former pic as well(Jim Lee drew a pretty hot! Lois in JL #9) but this is the new 52,n look at smallville as well clark had about six different relationships before lois, plus this supes is younger and he's SUPERMAN (i mean it'd be weird if the most powerful women(plural) in the universe didn't fall for him) ....so im guessin giv him a couple o relationships before he finds his ultimate destiny...*cough* lois *cough*......

Eh I really don't like this paring...but I guess I have to accept it. Much prefer SupermanXLois though.

its better than wonder woman and batman, they have even less in common. And Batman already has a bunch of other love interests he doesnt need another one

I wanna see Superman X WW relationship. About damn time if you ask me. Besides...Lois has a boyfriend.

@r3d_rob1n: The current arc is now four years behind the present. Action Comics is before even the five year gap where Justice League began. My head hurts.....

No the current Justice League arc is in the present. There was a flashback to 4 years ago in issue 9 but only for 4 pages. The Villain's Journey is set in the present, not the past. Action Comics is still in the past though.

@Lvenger: Apologies, you are of course correct. So, onto another point, will this impact the Superman book, where Clark is getting close with Lois' sister?

Ugh I'd forgotten about that. That might be an even worse romance. Clark's gonna end up with Lois eventually and him dating Lucy is a bit awkward. Anyway I'd hope if DC are going to put Superman and Wonder Woman together, they break up the Clark/Lucy brewing romance in Superman. Otherwise I'll have even more to complain about.
