Cthulhu opened its great eyes wide. Each one was like an icy inferno, living death, the chaos brought by opposites. The horror was indescribable. Slowly, slowly, Cthulhu got to its feet, those great sphinx-like paws. The mortal was still here. Cthulhu would make an example of him. The first sacrifice to herald the coming of a new age. The ground cracked as Cthulhu shifted its weight. And why not? Cthulhu was as large as a mountain. The mortal remained unimpressed. " You're all talk Chtulhu " This insolence could not be tolerated! Cthulhu's tentacles wriggled in anger. " And a dreamer should focus more on reality" But in dreams lie substance....through dreams so much can be learned. And in dreams the weak of mind could be controlled. Like that metal winged madman up above the waters. His mind was fractured, splintered, easily taken. Even now he stopped attacking Cthulhu's fellow Great Old One Dagon. Nightmares of a childhood long gone, but so real to that man. Cthulhu retracted from his mind to better focus on the challenge at hand. The mortal was thinking blasphemous thoughts against Cthulhu.
The waters were thrown away like torn paper. Some of the turrets and parapets of R'lyeh were hurled towards Cthulhu's great bulk. They hit, but made barely a dent on that giant. Angered now, Cthulhu spread his wings. ~Mortal, stop this foolishness~ Cthulhu reached out with its mind, to destroy this human from the psyche out.
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu lies dreaming. Cthulhu fhtagn. Cthulhu fhtagn. Cthulhu fhtagn....Cthulhu dreams no more. In the deep hidden city of R'lyeh, an orange eye opens with the fury of a dying star. The earth quakes. Slowly, R'lyeh begins to rise. The concave becomes convex, and concave once more. Cthulhu stirs, dreaming forgotten. The mountainous Cthulhu, who puts the kraken to shame. A tentacle reaches out, pushes aside a great stone slab. The stars are right. R'lyeh rises. The Cyclopean stone blocks are coated in a putrid slime. Deep sea creatures who have never seen the light of day hide in the dark towers.
Again the city shakes. Cthulhu rises from its ancient tomb. Across the world the insane scream. The dreamers awake covered in cold sweat. The whippoorwills call their deadly song across the moors. The water grows black with poisonous slime. Cthulhu has risen, and none will stand in its way. But a voice calls through the water, arrogant in the extreme. " Chtulhu, I'm here to stop your conspiracy once and for all ! " No, nothing could stop Cthulhu now. The stars were right and Cthulhu has ceased dreaming. " You will not succeed, so why bother trying ?" The mortal had continued his yelling. It was a cry heard across the centuries, an ignorant cry. Did they not know Cthulhu's power? " I know the outcome of this battle, as I have seen this tragedy before in time" Time had no meaning in the Spheres Beyond Sound. Time was subjective, merely another axis in the dimensional plane. " I'm still giving you a sense of amnesty here Chtulhu, so why not take the offer and leave earth be. Before i have to use physical means, and actually hurt you... Chtulhu" At this Cthulhu laughed. It was a horrid laugh. Miles away, the eardrums of the occultists dripped blood. The moon turned blood red in the sky. And Cthulhu spoke. ~I am Cthulhu, the dreamer. But I have awoken, and I shall put the Earth to sleep~
