@don_higashikata:

Then Dana walks in and dwarfs them both lol

Point being? Why does Dana "dwarfing" a fighter, has anything to do with it? Dana dwarfs a lot of BWs and 145'ers.

@mimisalome:

comparartively low level/low intensity of fly weight fights

No. Just no. The 125'ers do not slow down, they have the highest pace in the entire roster. And there are legit finishers in the Flyweight division, and some insane talent.

Go watch Elliot vs Smolka, and tell me if that's a "low level/low intensity" fight. That was the best grappling match I have seen this year. It was a barnburner of a fight, and some of the best guard passes, guard retentions, and mount escapes I have seen in recent memory, at least in MMA.

@van_cere: Very simple. Because the UFC does a shit job at promoting the Flyweight division; you cannot promote an entire division as just the champion. The UFC promotes the 125 division as only the "DJ show" and don't give the spotlight to the contenders. If you don't give the spotlight to the guys who are supposed to fight DJ, how do you expect to get the general populace invested in the fights? They won't give two sh**s about DJ's fights, if they don't care about the guys he's fighting.

In UFC on Fox 24: Johnson vs Reis, the best fight on the card was Elliot vs Smolka. It was a super exciting grappling match, more than most Mundial house matches that I have seen recently. And it was high paced, there was no stopping and holding positions for too long in that fight. The best part, the crowd was loving it.

But the problem was that it was hidden in the goddamn prelims. Why? How can you expect to get the general audience invested in the 125'ers, if you keep hiding insane fights like this, in the prelims. I would've rather watched this, than watch Jeremy Stephens unsuccessfully chase his guy around for 3 rounds.

There are fans that can do a far better job at managing the Flyweights.

Yoel is a fighter that is explosive for the first round, does jack all in the 2nd, and then explodes with brutal insaneness in the 3rd. Anderson is a counter-fighter and we all know how to fight counter-fighters; feints, pressure, feints. If Yoel trains exclusively pressure-fighting and using strikes to set up clinch and takedowns, I can see him ragdolling Silva. If he charges in, I can see Silva dropping him.

I have said it before and I'll say it again; Yoel was 23 when he competed in Athens 2000. If he had come to MMA immediately after that, we would've been talking about him as the GOAT.

@van_cere:

Conor is one of the best boxers on the planet right now.

In MMA. He is one of the best boxers, best strikers in MMA. Let's not compare him to pro-Boxers. The level of Boxing in MMA is nowhere near the level of Boxing in pro Boxing.

Where is my other MF'ing belt??

Cheap a** mf'ers?!?

No one 145-170 can handle mcgoat besides khabib or nate.

nah, at 170 Conor loses all the advantages he has fighting at 145-155. He's gonna have to put on 15 lbs of weight, making him slower. He's also only average height at that class so he's not gonna have that reach/height advantage he does at 155. He's a good 155...it seems natural for him. Throw him in with the likes of Woodley and Thompson, and you're just setting him up for hard fights he shouldn't even need to be in.

Conor's natural walk-around weight is 168-170. He won't have to put on any weight to fight at Welterweight, he won't have to cut any weight either. He didn't cut anything to make 170, and he wasn't really slower. He was fighting at the weight he trains at.

That being said, almost everyone at 170 has at-least 20-30 lbs of muscle on him. Most of them cut from 200 lbs and some like Tyron, cut from 200+ lbs. He will be a child to them. Weight and size matters.

Conor has never fought a legit Welterweight in his life. Nate Diaz is not a Welterweight. Everyone at 170 has at-least 20-30 lbs of muscle on him. Most of them cut from 200 lbs and some like Tyron, cut from 200+ lbs. He will be a child to them. Weight and size matters.

Also, that was a stellar performance by McGregor.
