I have heard that the reason for the re-launch was to make the DC Universe more relatable. 9 months in & I had a realization! My life is a fairy tail compared to most. My parents have been happily married for 43 years; they have never had a fight, still hold hands & gaze into each other's eyes at a restaurant & write love notes to each other. My Dad, Mom & Sister are my best friends. I have strong moral values & believe in doing the right thing & helping the weak. I was also raised to be extremely opened minded & not to judge other but to accept & love all. So what if I am in my mid-30s & still single! I am a hopeless romantic & still believe that one day I will find a life partner. Reading about a Clark that is married to Lois helped fuel my hope, but until then I have two wonderful rat terriers who bring me great joy & companionship. I assume I always liked DC more than Marvel because DC was more fantastical & Marvel was a bit too rooted in reality & dark. DC seemed like a bright sunny Spring day in the countryside compared to Marvel's polluted smoggy over populated dirty cityscape. I want my heroes to be HEROES! I want to look up to them. I want them to be better than me. I want them to inspire me. I do not want them to be loaded down with self doubt, major family issues, drug problems or heavy guns! (Ok, I do like a Wonder Woman who kills). I have never been a fan of Wolverine or Punisher because of this & Batman is my least favorite of the Trinity; though I LOVED Dick Grayson as Batman, because he is to me a more relatable character than Bruce. When DC announced Earth 2 as part of the Second Wave I got super excited but after reading the first issue those hopes & dreams of a better world quickly crashed as I discovered that Earth 2 is going to be even darker than the Main DCU. What are those of us who want to be inspired by true heroes to do; will I be relegated to reading Tiny Titans or the upcoming Superman Family title? Why does DC feel like they have to pump in the ‘Doom & Gloom’ that pollutes the Marvel Universe to keep DC relevant? Would it be too much to ask for maybe an Earth 1 comic where we have a more inspiring DCU that is still bright & sunny? I know many of you will say I should just stop buying the new titles (Sorry I will continue to buy Wonder Woman until either it is no longer published or I die) & read my back issues. But why should I (& many others) be required to achieve our enjoyment of the medium in this way? Does DC even care about the fans they are alienating?
