This is interesting. Is this what comics will come to some day? $1.99 is better than the $3+ some comics cost nowadays. I don't mind the digital format that much. As long as you have a decent monitor, it's pretty nice. Some of the advanced review copies I get are pdf files. Very convenient. I know people would have a problem giving up the "traditional" format but with the ever increasing rise in paper cost, what other solution is there? I spend $80 - $100 a week on comics. That's just crazy.
Dark Horse Comics has announced that the popular Aliens, Predator, and AVP comics series are now available for digital download on IGN Entertainment’s Direct2Drive ()." />http://www.direct2drive.com). For $1.99, customers can now purchase digital copies of individual Aliens, Predator, and AVP comics that virtually mimic the first run of each issue by featuring the original cover art and trade dress. Fans of these comics can now enjoy classic stories by the likes of industry luminaries Mark Verheiden, Mike Mignola, Chris Claremont, and Andrew Vachss from the comfort of their own computers.
“In celebration of the December release of AVP: Requiem, we thought launching our maiden voyage into the paid online comics universe with the AVP line made perfect sense,” says Nick McWhorter, Special Projects Manager for Dark Horse Comics’ Custom Publishing program. “The experience that IGN brings to the table with digital distribution through Direct2Drive makes for the perfect match and we couldn’t be more excited about our new endeavor.”
“We are thrilled to offer Dark Horse Comics to our millions of Direct2Drive users,” said Sutton Trout, Vice President of Digital Content for IGN Entertainment. “We continue to expand Direct2Drive’s product offering to ensure that our users have access to the most comprehensive collection of comics, videogames, and entertainment content on the Web—and Dark Horse is a welcome addition.”
In addition, DarkHorse.com has recently added an AVP Zone where fans can get the latest in news, interviews, and general musings on all
things AVP:

Predators
I thought the first Aliens vs Predator movie was okay. I saw the trailer for the second a few weeks ago. Looks better than the first. Good. Including an exclusive comic seems like a good idea for this set. A lot of the hardcore fans may not even be aware that the comics exist. More readers means more future comics. I'm sure a lot of fans of the comics will be a little bothered that the only way to get the limited comic is by buying this massive dvd set. Fifteen discs is a lot. I can only imagine the price tag. Limited to 10,000 and only at Best Buy could mean high prices on ebay. I think this is cool but I'm glad I'm not a huge fan or I might be a little upset over the comic not being readily available.
Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce the limited release of Alien vs. Predator: Sand Trap. This exciting, stand-alone story was written and illustrated exclusively for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment for inclusion in the limited edition AVP Ultimate Showdown Collectors Set.
An unfortunate desert platoon gets more war than they bargained for when they unwittingly end up in the middle of a battle where the warriors are not human. The soldiers soon discover that this chaotic region has proven to be an ideal hunting ground for the Predators’ latest conquest, and even Blackwater was no match for the forces unleashed in the thrill of the game. Will the new squad fare any better than the band of brothers before them? In space, nobody can hear you scream. On Earth, it won’t matter.
In addition to AVP: Sand Trap, the AVP Ultimate Showdown Collectors Set will include every film from the Alien and Predator franchises in a two-disc version (fifteen discs total), exclusive collectible Alien and Predator figurines, and two tickets to see Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (in theaters 12/25/07). The AVP Ultimate Showdown Collectors Set is limited to 10,000 pieces for worldwide distribution. It will be available in the U.S. on November 27, 2007, only at Best Buy. AVP: Sand Trap will not be offered for individual sale or through other retail outlets.
