They don't make em like this anymore
Aww the 80's..Hair-metal bands, transforming robots, and movies that provide nail-you-to-your-seat action. Being one of the two (the other being ALIENS which came out the year before) big budget Hollywood sci-fi action movies; Predator has all of the qualities we look for in a good summer popcorn flick. I remember when this hit the movies. It was awesome to say the least! From the moment you see the 20th Century Fox logo and the opening credits you know...you just KNOW you are in for good entertainment. The movie starts off simple enough with a small introduction to the members of Dutch's (Arnold Schwarzenegger) elite military commando unit. When I say elite I mean a consistency of about six guys in total (yeah these guys obviously are badass. They are accompanied by Dutch's old military pal turned C.I.A agent Dillon (Carl Weathers) who unbeknownst to everyone is secretly using them to get payback on South American guerrilla rebels he feels are responsible for the deaths of his team previously sent in to the same spot. Upon arrival the team promptly waste all of the rebels at their base. This is a job well done...with one MAJOR problem. They are NOT alone in the jungle. For one of the first times in movie history the audience is put in a first person perspective of whatever IT is that is stalking Dutch and the members of his team. The suspense is nothing less than gut-wrenching throughout the movie as we are treated to gruesome sneak attacks by this monster that can ingeniously make itself invisible by using its own advanced technology. One of my personal favorite moments in the movie involves Blain (Jesse Ventura) searching for a member of his team only to have everything go south from that point. There are so many good moments in this movie and it does really well with the character development of the villain. It doesn't try to be anything other than what it is and that's a good old fashioned summer flick with awesome amounts of action and terror.
