I had a tough time picking which book would get the illustrious 100th review. But, after reading through Vol. 4 of my Preacher TPB, I knew this was the issue. The wonderful origin or arseface. I grew up in the 90s, grunge music, way too much pot, flannel shirts, and this really brought me back. You may laugh when you read Pube wanting to kill himself because Kurt Cobain died (that and the fact he felt no one cared). Sadly, that was true. Quite a few of my more insane friends threatened to do themselves in because of Cobain's suicide. So, I got a few kicks out of that. As I was reading this, I kept thinking, "Wow, he really captured the grunge era". 10 Minutes later I remembered that's exactly when it was written.
Lets get down to brass tax kiddos. The world of Preacher is incredibly engrossing. All of the characters are actually interesting, something I can't really say about any other book I've ever read. And an issue about Arseface, which I could have never conceived was incredibly entertaining. The art in the book feels like a 90s indy book, which really fits in with the tone of the story. Of course, the writing is great, it's Ennis. and if you have a problem with him being too offensive then good, put the book down and never pick it back up because you're missing out on something too awesome for your eyes to read. As much as I like the Saint of Killers story, this is by far the best of the Preacher off-shoots.
