I know for a fact that most men like Kara Zor-El AKA Power Girl for her enormous "assets" (don't any of you guys deny it). However, I find that they are nothing more than a major distraction, which is preventing her from being taken seriously as a major superheroine, or even as an example of feminine strength and power. I just find the fact that DC Comics could allow Superman's Earth-Two cousin to be recognzied only for her massive DDD cups to be somewhat wrong. What do you think?
Power Girl
Character » Power Girl appears in 1722 issues.
Kara Zor-L is the older, wiser, and stronger counterpart of Supergirl from Earth 2 but resides on the Prime Earth.
POWER GIRL'S "DISTRACTIONS": LIKE OR DISLIKE?
i dont find it disgusting but i do think that her chest has had its time to shine and that any writer that truely cares about her character could realize that if that is what she is always known for, and is all people talk about, that they should get rid of it, then all they have to talk about is how bad or good her character actually is and not what the hole in her outfit looks like and what its not covering. Giver her something else to be known for. It doesnt help that they put her in the "B" cast (JSA). They need to finally let the old people retire and kick it up a notch. Her and Magog would make great leaders and a great team if they give them better characters to work with.
They're just boobs. Boobs are great but I think Power Girl is awesome not because of her cleavage hole but because of her dedication.
People keep saying she needs an insignia, well guess what that's what her cleavage has turned into. Granted the JSA Allstar outfit had the hole closed up and although that was the only change the costume looked rather generic. Besides she dresses rather modestly when she isn't Power Girl.
Boobs are Boobs, men are men. I will admit right now that i LOVE za boobs and i can admit that if I HAD money id be buying every powergirl comic for the simple fact its entertaining to see moments like in the first post.
Yes she is a great character but Ill admit again no one would remember this character among all the Power people in her family and Supermen in the universe if she didnt have enormous...yeah.
Ive rested my case im a perv and i dont give a damn if anyone finds it wrong.

This.
Sorry to dissapoint you but those boobs are never going to be covered. It shouldn't be after what Amanda Conner has done with the costume, the window works with the costume now.
On the subject of taking her seriously as a major superheroine? "Why So Serious?" The fact that she's not a serious character is a good thing IMHO. In the DCU, I believe she's taken seriously enough by her fellow heroes those that don't will learn the hard way. ^_^
In regards to being taken seriously amongst the comic community? Well I think they need to lighten up. I like that you can tell light/humorous stories with her cause among the other Krypton characters, who have their own books, it makes her even more unique, her book gives you something you don't find too much of now-a-days. I don't mind the boob jokes at all since PG is in on the joke.

Yes, quite agree.

I agree with this well-said statement.
I still say Red Monika is bigger
Christian Hendricks is someone to be admired amongst women. In the world of blonde hair and fake boobs, she stands out with natural curves and red hair.

I'd prefer dyed red hair rather than platinum blonde hair. Damn you, Kendra Wilkinson!!!!!!

We need some humor in the comic book industry and it helps differentiate her from Super Girl and other heroes. I mean, we do not get much of these type of women poking fun at themselves. She provides good humor among all the seriousness among comics. I mean, if all characters were as serious as Bendis Clint or Bats, comics would be all serious and dark. We need a couple characters to provide humor in comics. The fact is the way she is written, she acknowledges this fact but takes a humorous slant with it. Kinda like She Hulk did with all the people she slept with. The humor breaks up the tension found in all the other comics.
If the cleavage window are what's keeping power girl from becoming a serious character then by all means keep it. Her series is pretty much the only superhero comic I'm reading for the fact she doesn't take herself seriously and she doesn't look like she has a stick of her ass.
However, I definitely understand the other side of the coin. It's, yet again, another female comic book character being needlessly sexualized. To make matters worse DC not only feels the need to lampshade it but also justify it, seriously there about three or four different pathetic out-of-character explaintions. If DC had just left it be there probably wouldn't be anything to talk about, after all power girl's breast are big she doesn't exactly tower over anyone in dc universe and while cleavage window is revealing it's certianly not the most revealing costume. Regardless, to me my only problem is that power girl just doesn't seem like the type of woman who'd sexualize herself unnecessary. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with a sexualized female character but it feels out of place with power girl.
So for me it's a mixed issue. I like big boobs as much if not more that the next guy. I like power girl costume, cleavage window and all, as it's a really cool costume. In fact I like the fact that the cleavage window has stopped her from being taken seriously and just being another pissed off superhero. However, It just feels a little out of character, and power girl has other aspects that make her an awesome super heroine and they deserve recognition.
So gun to my head: fill it, not because I dislike it, but I just think there's more good to come out of it
" a rather poetic explanation for the holeI think Black Cat uses this strategy.
"
as for her revealing attire, I'd say it couldn't hurt to tone it down a bit.
Does anyone ever complain about how much Wonder Woman reveals? She's actually showing more than PG.
As for the character being taken seriously, I think that she's earned quite a lot of respect and her treatment in JSA vs. Kobra and the new All Stars series is proof that DC is giving her more credibility since proving her Kryptonian heritage (and lets not forget her Chairperson appointment to the JSA preceding that ). She's far more formidable with that revelation and she's moving up in rank because of it.
It looks like her main title is starting to hit it's stride now, blanching the silly with the gritty as of this last issue. When you look at what the competition across the street is doing, having canceled 2 of it's female titles in the last 3 years and leaving Spider-Woman in it's infancy to test the waters alone is a pretty good indicator of how well a book like Power Girl will work in this market. Up until now, the tone and demeanor of PG's title feels a lot like what Dan Slott was doing with She-Hulk, then it got canceled rebooted and canceled again before Peter David could get a chance to do anything with it.
That aside, I think that she's getting a lot more respect and credit than anyone is willing to realize and it's being done almost completely independent of the family Krypton which I wouldn't have thought to be possible and It's a good thing. :)
i dunno, maybe the artists arent really trying to make it stick out that much and
its just part of the design and aesthetic, and its more so in the readers minds...
...er, so...how about them Bengals huh?
I think people observe Wonder Woman to be more of an icon of the feminine stregth rather than just a sex image. She is not always portrayed as having huge "assets" like Power Girl every time you see her in that outfit of hers.
That's kinda my point." @Press Oblivion: I think people observe Wonder Woman to be more of an icon of the feminine stregth rather than just a sex image. She is not always portrayed as having huge "assets" like Power Girl every time you see her in that outfit of hers. "
The characters, for all intents and purposes, are the same. Check out Wonder Woman issue #34 Page 12 & 14 for some funny on this issue. By the way, Power Girl is not always portrayed that way either. It varys from illustrator to illustrator.
I've often given Bart Sears the credit for drawing Power Girl with amazing proportions but when you look at his work as a whole you see that he draws a majority of his women that way. Some artiste draw her to almost masculine proportions in muscularity while others draw her as a bikini model with an average build up top . . . same with Wonder Woman and many other female characters. Did Jim Lee give her any more than he's done for other females for the the cover of INFINITE CRISIS?
I guess I'm trying to say that Power Girl gets picked on while other characters seem to get a free ride. She's getting a lot more attention and respect than I think anyone is willing to see and the momentum in this respect is only growing.
Power girl's look is classic. It's revealing, it's even a bit offensive to women, but everyone knows it. It's classic. You try and change a look, it always gets changed back. Let's not worry so much about a character's wardrobe, and instead focus on the character and story instead.
I accept Powergirl as she is. I've never been a huge Powergirl fan but I think her look is fine as is and I occasionally enjoy the comic relief she provides. Some women may be offended by her but they'll have to accept that the boobs and the boob window are here to stay.
I also cosign Christina Hendricks being absolutely stunning.
