I stated in a past blog, that DC is miss handling Vertigo. ( HERE)

Pornsak went the extra mile and responded to a question I sent him.

So it is official, Pornsak is finishing up with Vertigo.  It is sad that DC is mishandling the once proud Vertigo.  If you are wondering why I I even bothered asking Pornsak, well I noticed Jeff Lemire is still in contact with him because Pornsak is his Vertigo Editor.  This confused me because I learned Pornsak was laid off.  It is confirmed that Pornsak's time with Vertigo is expired.  I do wish him the best, since I do associate quality with his AWESOME name.

I don't know if he was being nice or he actually read my reviews, but it made my day reading that and I do plan to review more Pornsak soon. :D

I wonder how many other people are worried DC is killing Vertigo?

I can't pick what to say.  On one hand, it's great someone from the industry actually took the time out to speak with you, but on the other hand it only confirms something bad.  As for DC killing Vertigo, it's not surprising.  Call me when they stop killing things in general and I'll be shocked and awed.

@Amegashita:  I know I am sounding like a broken record and may be the guys at DC will see one of the posts.  Instead of focusing on making quality stories that will make money later and possibly forever (like Sandman), they are focusing on what hurt comics in the 90s boom... they are focusing on the quick cash.

It is not just Vertigo mishandled. Wildstorm, Vuda, Minx and all the other imprints. To establish a culture that wants mature or non superhero reads take more effort and needs more of a push.  Honestly, does DC think they made honest attempts to keep things like Vuda alive?  No.

I mention Pornsak, because losing him is a mistake.  Like how when Vertigo lost Axel Alonso to Marvel, Marvel got better and made The Max imprint.  Why is DC even bothering finding and growing talent, only to give them away to Marvel or other companies.  If DC wants to be the best, they need to have the Best.  Pornsak is one of the Vertigo editors who had big names and acclaimed books.   Back to Alonso, he is the reason I could read Marvel again.  Most of Marvel was turning me off, until Axel dropped that Vertigo Edge into the mix.  Pornsak's books have a certain flavor to them, can't word it yet, but he knew how to get good creative teams.  Losing Pornsak hurts Vertigo because he was rising up to that Alonso level.

I am not 100% sure, but my understanding is Pornsak was the one who brought in Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Superboy).  I like Geoff Johns, he knows how to write a good superhero story and all.  But it looks like he Took Lemire and now tossed away the silver wrapper which was Pornsak.  So is that what Vertigo has become just a training grounds?  Just a place where talent is grown "indie" and then picked when marketable? If that is the case, then real Vertigo is finally dead.  Vertigo was about the story and to push a story past the limits that mainstream comics have, such as having a finite ending.

May be the problem is the fans... instead of letting the company decide what is good, the fans need to discover good books for themselves.  I guess that is why my reviews are eclectic and my Blogs are bitter to the industry... instead of seeing comics as entertainment, there needs to be a grassroots movement to grow comic culture and appreciate it as the art it is. The majority of comic fans need to see that they are helping to kill the culture.  To Love something, there should be a hunger to devour it. I can say I love comics because I do, it is not the heroes that make me read comics, its the stories.  If I happen to like the hero that is a bonus, but when it boils down to it a good story is a good story whoever the main character is.  Most comic fans too busy getting their character fix to see that the comic companies are just bleeding them dry. Companies should release quality stories because they want to earn out money... but they know they can half-@$$ it because most people rather buy the character over the story.

The more turned off from DC I get, the more I get to read other books.  So it is a blessing for me in that way.  I just hope the day I stop reviewing mainstream books, there will be a reviewer who is not knee-jerked like I tried to be.

thanks for checking out my blog :D

Thanks for the reply.  Yeah, DC is not handling Vertigo well at all.
