Ok this just occured to me as im re watching the animated series...

so she protects plant life at any cost...

what does she eat?

She wouldnt be able to eat vegetables.. so does she live on meat?

TOTALLY RANDOM i know but.. it was a thought

I've heard she's a vegan, but that absolutely does not make sense. She should be the total opposite whatever that's called.

Maybe because she's like part plant now she can make her own food supply and live off it just like how plants seem to do. The food is stored in her body kinda like fat in animals and whenever she's hungry.....

It's a valid thought... and a good question...  One of those little details people forget about...

Actually in Batman TAS, in the episode "Harley and Ivy", she is shown eating salad and other greens with Harley, so I guess that counts for something.

IVY ate plants before ,but without forcing the land

Either photosynthesis or if she eats greens he can eat fruit or vegies she is not harming the plants on eating the fruit they produce which is harmless and part of a plant cycle.  Plants want you to eat the fruit thats why they taste good and are good for you the idea is animal eats fruit animal craps seeds seed grow into more plants cycle of crap is complete

I totally remember watching that "Harley and Ivy" episode, watching them at dinner, and thinking to myself, "Wouldn't Ivy eating plants basically be cannibalism to her?" Considering she seems to think plucking a pedal off of a posie is the apocalypse…her being vegetarian doesn’t seem to mesh well with me. I’d think she be more carnivorous.

she can grow various fruits in the blink of an eye so i'd figure she'd some of those... but i doubt that's her's sole source of nutrition, gotta agree with the lot that she most likely photosynthesizes.

so since she uses photosynthesis, i was wondering... i've noticed that when she's using her powers her hair rises, could this possibly be the result of it trying to reach towards the sun in order to gain more energy that may be needed during battle?

You can eat parts of a plant without killing it. Fruit, leaves, etc.

Likely she sees fruits, veggies, and other plant products as "gifts" or rewards for her efforts to protect them.  Besides, plants produce edible components whether people eat them or not and aren't killed in the process.

In Harley's first appearance when Ivy found her she took a bite out of an apple and fed some to her plant/horse, . that must count for something i guess

She's essentially locked away in a hole, with no access to sun and water. She starts to literally wither, until she's thrown into a fountain and exposed to sunlight and she's rejuvenated instantly.

First, I would think Ivy would be morally opposed to eating meat on grounds of ethical and environmental sustainability. I mean, she calls people "meat bags" to be derogatory; clearly she thinks meat is a waste of space. I don't see her supporting further environmental pollution or destruction of natural habitat just to eat meat.

Therefore if she does eat, it would likely be fruits and veggies or things she grew herself.

But as it was pointed out Gotham City Sirens #8 (and what I assumed to be the case since Batman 568/Detective Comics 735 "Fruit of the Earth"), Ivy thrives on water and sunlight, like the rest of plant life, absorbing the energy she needs, not through food but photosynthesis.

They actually state that she needs Water and Sunlight to survive and this was a part of the story in several of the recent comics. Therefore, that leads me to believe she does use photosynthesis.
