Great interview, it is always a pleasure to listen to folks talk about an industry that to me sometimes seems opaque. It is great to hear how thoughtful Ms. Liu approaches her writing.
Liked her work on X-23 quite a bit. Would really like to give Black Widow a go. And I'm in total agreement about Warbird. That issue of Wolverine and the X-Men really made me love her character.
I was enjoying the conversation, and Marjorie Liu is a great guest that I was interested in hearing from. However, I had to turn it off. Ever since Ryan Stegman's spot, the topic of peoples' overreactions to SPIDER-MAN 700 has been brought up. I enjoy listening to these podcasts, but I'm beyond tired of this topic The only thing that's become more unbearable for me at this point are the reactions to people's overreactions. Of course Slott didn't deserve threats over something as trivial and meaningless as this, but how long are people going to continue pretending to be shocked about it?
I'll just stick to the regular Friday podcast.....or until you get get Fred Perry on.

Marjorie was fantastic, love her writing Warbird. Although the plot to her book series was spoiled for me, I thoroughly enjoyed the podcast. Tony, see if you can get either James Tynion, Jeff Lemire or Kelly Sue Deconnick at some point, I'd imagine they'd have dark or funny anicdotes .
@G-Man That's an unfair characterization of my position. More so given my near universal support of nearly every feature of this site. Is dissent never allowed?
I never said I have issue with the topic of SPIDER-MAN being talked about. What I'm tired of hearing is the constant complaining about peoples' overreactions to 700. The first 40 minutes of the Stegman interview was about that, it came up last week, and now this week.

Also Marjorie Liu is an AWESOME guest, you should get her on often she's cool. Dan Slott too. Dan and Marjorie are my two favourite guests so far i think (as far as i can remember anyway).
I think its awesome that we finally got to hear from a female writer, @G-Man. Kudos! I hope we'll get some more.
It would also be great if we could get Brian Azzarello on here. I'd love to hear some of what he might have planned for Wonder Woman in the coming year.

I will be passing up on this podcast because I know you guys are gonna gush and go on and on about gay marriage; something I'm not in agreement with. Yeah, love who you want, that's on you. I don't agree with it no matter what public opinion is. I still love everyone regardless of my viewpoint. (Call if "hate" if you want, I hate nor wish ill will on no one.) I believe it's sin and have read nothing but negative repercussions from it (yes, gay friends have told me things I wouldn't wish on anyone but everyone thinks it's all hugs and love and fluffy clouds). Just wanted to throw that out there. 1st amendment rights and all that. I'm sure Majorie is a gifted writer and I wish her nothing but the best in all her endeavors. The current plotline you and Sara spoke of in last Friday's podcast has piqued my interests but still not gonna buy it. I'm sure this podcast was great like all the others. Kudos!
@Timotheus316: Just so you know, the marriage was barely even mentioned in the podcast. Yes, the topic comes up, but in terms of politics it's more about illegal immigration than anything else (and even then, it's a minor part of the podcast).
Loved hearing from Liu. She seems like a really chill person. A couple things came up about Avengers Arena which, unsurprisingly, I have opinions about (hello new blog?), but overall I quite enjoyed this. My first time listening to a CV cast: would do again.
You HAVE to read her Black Widow. It's only a six (or so) issue run and it's collected in trade form: Black Widow: The Name of the Rose. I consider myself a HUGE Black Widow fan, and this is hands down the best Black Widow story that I've ever read.
Really good podcast. I want Daken to come back and reveal that UBER EVIL CRAZY DAKEN as a clone or something. Well at least it sounds like we may be seeing ULTIMATE DAKEN show up in Ultimate Wolverine.

I'm sorry, but no. You don't "love" everyone. If you did, you wouldn't want to deprive people IN love of marrying the people THEY love based on a book of religious faith you happen to follow. You don't get to claim love where you have none. I'm sorry. I won't stand for that.

Bad things come of all marriage sometimes. If a ban is to occur, it should be on ALL marriage. People break up and get divorced all the time. If your issue is negative consequence then ban all marriage. It's not, though. Your issue is bigotry.

You aren't those people's friends. Your using the fact that people with opinions like yours have given the gay people in your life such a horrific time that's okay to discriminate against them. It's insane way of reasoning. Maybe if less people in the world thought like you the gay people wouldn't have suffered all the "negative repercussions" you mentioned. There's a reason that public opinion has changed because it's been a few thousand years since the bible has been written and society for the most part realizes that it's not relevant and some of things that are condoned in the bible are monstrous like these charming bible quotes.

Are any of these things acceptable now? No. Because society has evolved. Personally I think the religious groups like to keep homosexuality "the other" as a distraction away from people looking too closely at them and their blatant corruption. I mean priests are supposed to take a vow of poverty and the pope lives in a palace.

In fairness someone getting death threats for taking a comic book character a direction that they didn't like should be shocking. It's not something that should ever be considered okay. PARTICULARLY since it's clearly temporary and so obvious how they are going to reverse it. I don't even read Spiderman and I instantly had the same idea Tony did when I heard about that storyline.
This podcast has made me dig out of my copy of Kitty Pryde and Wolverine (when it was reprinted in Wolverine and Gambit #63-8 back in 2001) and to read some of Marjorie Liu's work.
