I'm in hig school, and I really don't think Silk Spectre felt genuine to teenage conversations. I did love the dialogue for a completely different reason. I thought it was actually so corny, it added to the "old-fashion" feel.

I like the idea that Alfred payed off the social worker, it goes with how crooked Gotham was. A rich boys parents are murdered, and the butler pays off the social worker so he can take care of the boy. For all the social worker knew Alfred set up the murder and planned to murder Bruce too to get the money. And I love the idea that Gordon played such an important role in Bruce's life too. I wish I had been reading Batman now, so that I could be reading about his brother.

Timm, Dini, and Marakami (spelling?), have mentioned how the studio asked them to make a Batman cartoon with a teen high school Bruce. They hated the idea too until they started coming up with all the cool ideas they used. But I think they thought it sounded like an excuse the studio was using to sell more toys and stuff like that.

I think a major reason villains don't team up and take everyone out is that many don't see themselves as villains. Magneto is a rebel not a terrorist, he wouldn't team up with a criminal like Kingpin or Green Goblin. Most bad guys don't see themselves as bad guys, they justify their actions and see that they are actually good people who maybe have to do this or have done a bad thing. They also can look at other bad guys and see they are bad too. Norman Osborn can look at the Red Skull and get completely discussed that he is a Nazi. Two-Face or Poison Ivy can look at Joker and say now thats a evil person, but fail to see it in themselves.

The Promethius stuff (name of a comic villain by the way, theres your connection) reminded me, especially with what you said, of the Simpsons where Homer is watching Twin Peaks. He says Brilliant, I have no idea whats going on. Thats what the commercials made me think. They show astronauts, then space, DANGER DANGER DANGER, Promethius. I couldn't tell what was happening based on the commercials. I will see it eventually, but those commercials...

Yes, definatly do a 3 Min. Expert on Dredd please. You could do how the Judges came to be, who and what the other Judges are like Judge Death, I mean who is that right?

And Here is a picture I did in 2000, Bruce Timm styled Dredd. I thought it would be cool to see Dredd guest star on the Batman animated series.

I forget how many extra pages the Watchmen book had, but I got it because of all the preliminary art. But Kingdom Come has over 200 (I think) extra pages including all the character designs and rough art and stuff. Thats how I judge to get them or not, the Absolute stuff, how much extra do you get with it? Some Absolute books only have 60 extra pages.

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

I have heard Avengers Assemble is going to be less like the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, and geared more towards both adults and kids. And will have the same tone as the movie. It will start with the cast from the movie with the addition of Falcon who is probably going to be in Cap 2, and then will eventually add Black Panther and Ms. Marvel (who might be Captain Marvel at that point) to the ranks as well as others. The style will be like the Avengers Assemble Comic too. I heard that Loeb said he started his job after EMH was already signed and started, and it was heavily serielized. And they want it less serielized, which sounds bad at first. But Timm's Batman and Superman were less serielized too. He also, I thought, wanted all the cartoons to be connected but I have heard Hulk SMASH and Ultimate Spidermna wont be connected to the Avengers Assemble cartoon.

Back when Stan Lee was writing Spider-Man he explained his ability to take a beating. Said that his increased strength also effected his entire body, made it tougher. So he could get hit hard because all his muscles were stronger. Plus he mentions several times in a few issues that he roles with the punches, a guy hits him in the face he moves back slightly so he is hit less than the guy intended.

yeah, you guys forgot my questions for James last time too, that I sent you a few weeks back. Please let me know if I need to send them again, and when please. Thanks.

No Matt Kindt talk? There wasn't even an interview by you guys about it. It was his first issue of Frankenstein Agent of SHADE and at least I think it was a huge improvement. I actually hated Lemire's Frankenstein.

In Morrison's Batman Bruce's ancestor never made a deal with the devil but came across Darkseid's Hyper Adapter becoming infected by it and became Doctor Hurt. He was convinced the whole experience was driven by ghosts and demons. He lived well into the modern world and was discovered by Bruce's parents who felt bad for him he was put in Willowwood Asylum to get better but Hurt was angry at their kindness and took over the Asylum slowly maybe using his devil like influence. Doctor Hurt then started rumors about Thomas Wayne Martha's parents slowly became more sick and unstable thinking it was Thomas Wayne when it was Hurt. When Bruce's parents died it's hinted they were not in the best condition to help Bruce so that may explain why Bruce was not sent to Martha's parents.

I must say, if I had to choose between Sara not being on the podcast, or not having the news video, I would rather have her on the podcast and lose the news video.

Edited by FoxxFireArt

Such a conflict. I love the work Sara does on the news, but it seems to keep her from the podcast.

About the whole SPOILER issue. I really can't stop my eyes from rolling about the cliche of the evil brother. I know it hasn't been confirmed if it's even a brother, but ...Ugh. It doesn't matter if it's Earth 2 or something from years ago.

BATMAN BEYOND was surprisingly entertaining. I actually really loved that movie they did of Joker's return. I thought it was funny that at the end they revealed the twins were the granddaughters of Harley.

I liked reading GEN 13 until J. Scott Campbell left the series. Fairchild and much of the cast weren't teens. I'm pretty sure they were all college aged.

Reading minds. Sounds better than I think it would actually be. I really don't think I'd want to know the completely honest thoughts of women. If so, I'd want the ability to turn it on or off. In balance, I doubt women would want to know what's in my head. The idea that you want to know someone's honest thoughts is dictated that you're hoping it's something you like.

Wealth is a power by Comic Vine standards. Insanely Rich is one of the optional powers for characters.

The question involving trades. He doesn't seem to understand how manga are actually published in Japan. Manga are collected in volumes, but 9/10 those chapters were serialized weekly or even monthly in a published magazine along with other series. In the US we mostly only know the collected versions. There is actually a US version of SHONEN JUMP, but that's so backdated and filled with edits that it's not worth the paper it's printed on.

In regard to my question about digital readers. I can understand that some people may not be into it, but they are incredibly convenient for those who don't want to spend a ton of money trying to catch up on back issues. The idea that I can't buy a digital comic from a legitimate retailer I'm comfortable with seems silly. You are shunning someone who is interested in giving you money for your publication. Is DC - or comic publishers in general - really in a state where every sale doesn't count?

My memories are fresh of that bet since I just watched that Happy Hour. In that, Ryan stated that there would be some references to the actual real world SPIDER-MAN musical within the comic story. Even if it was a play on the "Turn Off The Dark" title.

You should have a contest where a CV user could join Sara on the podcast through Skype or such.

Great show again guys. Prometheus was pretty good.

Posted by HubrisRanger

Tony, this is the second week in a row you've gotten this wrong so I am going to clarify.

Marvel DID have full ownership and creative control over Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. In fact, when they announced the show, they went out of there way to say that if/when it got cancelled, it would be under their terms rather than having a contract dispute with the creatives. (This is what happened to both Fantastic Four and WatX; Spectacular was cancelled because Marvel was about to get the TV rights to Spider-Man back.)

The reason EMH got cancelled is because Joshua Fine and Christopher Yost, the two primary show runners, left in the middle of production for the second season, and rumor has it that Fine left because of Jeph Loeb trying to flex too much creative control on the show. With the two principle creative leads of the show no longer in the picture, Loeb and Dini felt it appropriate to scrap this version of the Avengers and try to do their own take, giving them creative control from the beginning rather than be stuck with certain decisions they never made.

All that said, Avengers Assemble does look and sound like it will be more geared towards those older, JLU fans where as Ultimate Spider-Man and Agents of S.M.A.S.H. is a more kid-centric approach.

Thx for the reply and yes I was referring to Lobdell's comment that indicated Raven had been taken away from him by DC TBTB and that there were bigger plans for her than returning her to Teen Titans.

Btw; Character development>(any day anywhere)>big punch ups

@Corey I'd not heard about these Sideshow collectibles having to accept a person as a customer. You said you understood why, because they're so good ... I don't understand the logic. Surely anyone who can buy the product show be allowed to? My mind is boggling that they may fear people misusing the statues, or something.

It sounds like a way to artificially bump up the prestige factor, but surely the price point makes them seem super-desirable already? Any insight would be most appreciated, cheers!

Fun podcast, as ever, boys. And hi to Sara, I do miss her when she's not around. Like  @hunter5024, I'd prefer to see her podcasting rather than having to do all that work on the comics news video. It's impressive, but there are many sources for the news, and only one CV podcast. I listen to loads of podcasts and it's great to hear another smart person who happens to be a woman. It's not that I believe male and female readers are totally different, but there are certainly perspectives I've not thought of that Sara brings up. And I like the Sara/Tony chemistry.

And as it looks as if Sara's going to be all-alonio this next week, how about getting former iFanboy staff writer Sonia Harris in as co-host? She was always huge fun on the occasional iFanboy Pick of the Week, and I believe she's still in SF.

In Amazing Spider-Man #650, they actually had Peter singing one of the songs from the musical while he was in his underwear and I checked and it seems to have come out on December 15th 2010.

Geez...

Umm... This started out as a comment (or 'letter to the editor'), then it turned into something that got out of hand for me... I was listening to the podcast and when it came to the comments on Prometheus I found that I felt compelled to respond. I loved the movie... even wrote an insane 13000+ review of it which I posted here ... Corey and Tony both said they liked the movie, but it was mostly with Tony's comment that you have to read 'some thesis' from 'some dude' that posted on a blog somewhere in order to understand the film and there seemed to be doubts to whether this was connected to Alien (or AlienS... with an S... as Tony kept saying). I don't think it's that hard to understand and I'm just a dumb guy. Anyway... Here's my slight reworking of that bit of ComicVine's podcast with Corey, Tony, (Sara) and 3 British guests... I believe the 'knighted one's' comments are unedited (and he addressed some of the comments from the Comic Vine guys...).

It's about 15 minutes long. Sorry about the length. Now I can listen to the rest of the podcast (I couldn't get past the Prometheus segment until I got this out of my system). Love the show, though.

Edited by JonesDeini

@johnny_spam: Yup, that about sums it up.

G-Man I might just have weird tastes, but Irving's art has never not impressed me. I was first exposed to his art Via Batman/Robin and he's the sole reason I gave Morrison's run on that book a shot until it finished cuz I was MORE than done with his Batman work at that point. Maybe you should check out his run on Xombi with Rozum (amazing book in general) because his artwork is giving a story you may feel it more appropriate with. My only issue with his work on Shade 9 was that the chin on the Pharaoh was slightly off from where it should've been.

Also FF 607 is set pre AVX

No, won't be a podcast this week. Comments like these kept that from happening. :)

@Babs: Aw, thats really too bad. Although, besides the mean comments, I can see how it would be hard to fill the time all on your own. But what will I listen to now while I put the finishing touches on my comic?

Im sorry to hear that, it would have been a fun experiment for you and a good listen for the rest of us, id have been willing to bet all those that said they would pass would have downloaded it anyway lol. I guess you are going to be super busy anyway with looking after everything on your own, ill look forward to next weeks podcast instead ^_^

@Babs: AAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Don't let the few idiots that post stupid comments deter you, Sara!!! I thought a solo podcast would be difficult, but if anyone can do it, you can.

Now, I feel like I'm being punished for someone ELSE's obnoxiousness.

AAAAAUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Pain.... No podcast this week. Crap. Oh, well. Maybe I'll go see Prometheus, again.

Such is the internet, yanno? Some people feel the anonymity gives them free reign to be as rude as possible and say things that they would never dream of if they knew they would be held accountable. I never really understand the people who spend time on a website where they claim to not like the main people involved. You see the same thing over on the Giantbomb forums with the random hate directed towards some of the guys, especially Patrick.

I haven't been following Comic Vine all that long, but from what I have seen you and Tony have both stepped your game up in a big way since the move. There is a lot more content and the effort is certainly obvious.

As for the trolls? Just ignore them. They really aren't even worth a second thought. If they weren't here complaining about some random thing they would be on another site doing the same. You would think that when you aren't paying for something at all you could just, you know, shut up and move on if you are really that perturbed.

Posted by EnSabahNurX

O_O No Sara podcast??? O_O Well that's depressing, been missin the babs' perspective during the podcast. Babs and Gman balance each other out quite nicely.

Some comicviners need to learn not everything in their heads should be typed online if it is rude or offensive to those who work hard to keep this site running and up to date. It's just disrespectful.

Posted by dangermart

Yeah, I'm disappointed too - more that you may have been upset by the odd stook, Sara, than that there's no podcast this week. I do enjoy the show hugely, but we'll survive ... the notion of doing the whole show by yourself is probably perturbing enough without feeling one or two rude buggers are waiting to jump in and have a pop. I'm sure the overwhelming majority of listeners appreciate that you're a smart, fun co-host. You have a great weekend, now.

Thats too bad. I was looking forward to it because with just you, meaning no side conversation - most of the questions would have been read. Dont get me wrong I love the conversations and having guests, but Im starting to feel that a separate podcast or an extend Ask and Ye shall receive is needed for the questions, as they are usually rushed through in the last few minutes. Have a good weekend Sara and I look forward to hearing from you next weekend and have missed your insights today ...

No podcast this week? Darn...guess I'll just have to listen to some old ones.

Posted by SolthesunGod

In fairness there was only two comments. I think she was joking based on the smiley face. I would say a podcast on your own would be very tricky and intimidating, particularly one the length of the comicvine podcasts. No offence to Sara but what I like about the comicvine podcast is that it's a conversation about comics, it's very hard to have banter with just one person.I probably would have listened in out of curiousity but no offence to Sara but I wouldn't have been too interested in her doing a solo podcast but that goes the same for G-Man or anyone else for that matter doing a solo podcast.

I'd actually have liked her to have done it but just enlisted someone to do it with her. What might have been interesting was if she got someone in her real life who didn't read comics and got them to read the books that were going to be discussed this week and see what they thought of them, from an outsider perspective. The publishers are making such a big deal about the books being accessible to new readers, it might have been fun to test if they actually are.
