Guy Gardner and his allies are heading to Earth with one difficult objective: to take down Superman.
The virus is now out in the public, even though the CDC wants to continue the quarantine.
Ulga might be battle-ready, but she's not at all prepared for Princess Academy!
James Robinson joins Tony and Sara to talk about this month's issue of EARTH 2. Somehow the conversation ends up all over the place thanks to James. Get ready for a very interesting episode.
WOOT Podcast Time!!!!!
3 hour podcast and with James back, cant wait.
Hard Cover vs. Soft Cover: The soft Covers are less expensive. Sometimes much less, but the glue that binds the books can no to weak or dry up and the book can fall apart. Especially if the book is super thick, like Busiek's Avengers books. Hard Covers are much better to stand the test of time, but are more expensive and clunkier. But sometimes come with more extra features. I would probably go with hard covers, but for prices and because I just really want the art and story I usually go with soft covers.
I watched an interview of Dave Grohl and Elton John ands was surprised to find out that Elton John loves new and alternative rock like Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age and stuff like them.
(I write as i listen) Its funny how fast you guys came up with the answers to the zombie TV show question. Normally, with a question that has so many possibilities like who would you cast, you guys understandably can't really answer. But this time you guys had clear ideas. It was nice to hear.
Wow, thanks for answering my questions about writing. That was great. I agree with James, I never liked Flash either because he was too mean. It wasn't until they started having him grow up and be nicer that I liked him. I understand not wanting to just throw out some answer. But thanks for taking the time to think about it. I have a character who I want to be likable and have depth (sort of) but not just be a stereotype or one dimensional. But still be a bad guy and a jerk and dumb. I also have this other character who is a big guy but has the mind of a child and I wanted to show that without falling back on simple childish things, again not wanting him to be a stereotype or one dimensional.
I didn't know that about Kingdom Come either, I have never heard that. Interesting. Thanks for answering my questions. Hearing you explain the dolphin makes more sense than what I had heard, making it sound like a far out silly concept.

I agree. And I dispise that unless you never touch it, softcovers always bend outward. I only do softcover if there is NO Hardcover available, and even then grudgingly
Darn it!! I always seem to miss asking questions when James is going to be on. I have some pretty good questions for him. This should be an interesting dynamic with Sara on the East coast. She and James aren't in the same room. I love that she implies he's funny drunk. Does that imply that's the only time he's funny?
"Polyamorous" is a word I haven't heard in a good long while. I don't think it's impossible, but I'm more about dedication. I would say that's bit me in the ass more than a few times.
I prefer paperbacks mostly, It has to be a story that I'm really invested in.to put the money into a hardback. I'm probably now not going to ever buy SPIDER-MAN: SPIDER ISLAND since they're waiting till October of this year to release the paperback. While the hard cover was out immediately after the arc was over. Even the digital edition is the same price as the physical book. Digital should never be the same price. I had some expendable income after my birthday, but I just spent it on stiff I could get right away.
I am from the Philippines and I am also Chinese. In the 1970s bronze age, there were many dc artists from the Philippines and I always noticed the covers done by Ernie Chua/Ernie Chan who migrated to America. In Wildstorm, Whilce Portacio from the Philippines did have the filipino Grail in Wetworks. New 52 has not revived Wetworks yet.
I prefer hardcover always even though it costs a little more. Whenever I handle my soft covers I feel like any time spent reading them is going to permanently bend the covers and pages!
I think his party is an April Fools' joke. Burlesque party on April 1st? ;)
Argh I missed my James email by 24 hrs. Oh well great podcast.
Less wringing your hands over being politically correct, more comics in future plz.
do you guys think earth 2 batman will have a robin
Character who is an adult but with the mind of a child? Drinks out of juice boxes?
Really disappointed to hear no discussion of this weeks comic books or news within a three hour podcast. The questions are often laborious, end up in tangents or can be solved by a quick trip to Google. Please go back to the original format.
@Fastblender: There'll be some actual comic talk on Wednesday's Invincibly Super Massive Comic Book Podcast of Stuff.
I hope there will also be a new earth 2 Superman. Maybe use Superman junior as the new earth 2 Superman. As for a new earth 2 Robin, can maybe use Bruce Wayne Junior. I still have fond memories of the old Superman junior and Batman junior stories from the bronze age World's Finest (1970s).
You forgot Secret Avengers!
James Robinson is a lot more interesting than even comics so maybe James should write a comic book autobiography. He knows more about the bronze age and he knows more about the Legion of Super Heroes. Have to watch out for alcoholism which can cause memory problems. Whilce Portacio also created a 2nd filipino superhero Stone based on Philippine mythology of winged monster women, half horse monsters and environmental spirits.
Hickman has said Avengers and New Avengers are sister titles. The New Avengers Illuminati are the behind-the-scenes decisions that play into Avengers.
Love James Robinson on this!! :D Cant wait till he comes back
Terrific podcast this week. James was on his best worst behavior that I've heard in a while. His casual use of curse words is always a delight. The fact that he's a veteran writer who is also into video games is awesome. Earth 2 is one of my favorite new DC comics to read mainly because it's free from the questionable Earth Prime continuity. It's takes a personality like James' to help create such a fun book.
A shame we couldn't get a week-in-review for comics but t's pretty cool that I got another question answered this episode. I think Tony had the most solid answer with Silver Surfer, Hulk, and Reed Richards. Both James and Sara cracked me up with their answers. I might go Hank Pym, Richard Ryder, and Thor. The alternate Doom in FF is absolutely ridiculous. Allred and Fraction are geniuses. Thanks guys and keep up the great work!
All of these podcasts are making me want to add Earth 2 to my pull list now. If Fearless Defenders doesn't pull itself out of the Brokeback Pose Zone soon, I'll have the room to add it.
Just wanted to say that Xavier is still kind of around in Uncanny Avengers (mind) and X-Men Legacy (spirit), so there's always options to bring him back.
Also, just wanted to let Sara know that Black Bolt has actually lost to Hulk before (at the start of Planet Hulk) ;)
Shame my email question didn't get answered this week. Hopefully it will next week.
Was Sara on this podcast, I was only able to listen to about 10 minutes so far, but I didn't hear her chime in at all?
I miss Corey whenever he's not on these podcasts. I guess 4 is too many because everyone would be talking over each other, however I would prefer Corey who can be there in person rather than a distracting skype feed. I assume its hard to chime in when your on the other side of the country. Corey adds so much to the podcast. I think Tony and Corey do a great job with their discussions and having James is just a bonus.
Sara and Tony,
One of the reasons I think Uncanny Avengers isn't holding up as well as Uncanny X-Force is because Remender's stories move at an unusual rate that isn't being helped by UA's random release rate. UXF was twice a month and it allowed him to explore these emotionally deep plot but not lose the reader. With UA, I'm not feeling that.
I also think it is not holding up because the slower release schedule is not synching with the team's projected image in the Marvel U. We're seeing the UA team chasing down Cable, showing up in the Young Avengers, and then there's solicited appearances in All New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men (I think). The Uncanny Avengers are supposed to be a premier team that the Marvel Universe is focused on, but we're just now seeing the formation of the team. It is falling into the same continuity slog that the first arc of Justice League faced in the new 52.
I will give Uncanny Avengers this, it has made me fear the Red Skull again.
@G-Man James is right, you won't regret seeking out the Phantom Zone mini-series. it was like a punch to the gut when it appeared, so intensely entertaining. Gerber and Colan on Superman? Wow! There was also a tie-in DC Comics Presents that appeared just post-Crisis, but was a callback to the pre-revised continuity - it was the final issue, number 97.
@dangermart: It's coming out in JUNE! DC is collecting all, the DC Comics Presents as well.
Guess DC was listening in.
