Tony and Sara are joined by James Robinson to discuss Earth 2 and a lot of the controversy around the recent announcement. James answers questions from the community and gives several hints as to what we can expect.
The reason Superman isn't with Lois Lane is because DC doesn't know what to do with him ANYWAYS. Lois only restricts him even more.
DC thinks that Marriage doesn't work with super heroes. Explain to me DC, why Robert Kirkman has done so many good stories with marriage involved? There are so many characters in the Invincible universe itself that are married and great stories have come out of it.

Beacuse Skybound actually has proper character development
What type of program is used to play these podcasts? Quicktime or something, I am not very knowledgeable about computers and the internets. And My computer was rebooted and suddenly internets not paying the podcast when I click play anymore.
And my internet has been down since December. Have the Podcasts been moved to Mondays instead of Fridays from now on?
@ArtisticNeedham: Not exactly sure what is used to play it here. You can download an mp3 above. It seems the iTunes version plays at a lower volume. There's something wrong on their end I need to figure out.
@Babs: That is cool Sara... You guys are always answering my questions. :D
@G-Man: I was wondering, would it be possible to add a link to the Comic Vine Podcast as it is hosted on Zune? That may be an option for folks - at least that is where I listen to it from and have my subscription... :)
Always happy to hear James Robinson on the podcast. Where the hell did someone get the idea that James is a misogynists??
I've actually wanted to see the Pirates of the Caribbean ride since they added Depp's character. I watched a documentary on how they updated that ride. It was fun.
I love how James mentions that Earth 2 is a different world. I said the same thing on Twitter. There is no reason for this to be the same as Earth 1. I'm actually surprised he talked about as much as he did for Earth 2. Things need to be saved for people to read.
@thanosrules:
Yeah, they didn't get to my question either, but it's totally understandable. Things were kind of crazy these past few days. I'm just going to save it for the next time he'll be on.
I disagree with Robinson's take on writing marriages. When the convention is to either avoid it or break them apart then writing a marriage, especially a successful one actually does keep things interesting.
I'm so sad that I can't listen to this, or any of the podcasts I missed since December. I had to swtich to Linnex (I think its called). Is that the problem? Does Linnex not play the podcasts? Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Hi, Thanks for the podcast interview. I just wanted to clarify that Mr. Robinson wasn’t the last person to write the marriage before the reboot.
Lois Lane showed up in Grounded a number of times. Her excuse was that she was one of the reporters following the Walking story. A few different writers ended up writing Grounded (I’ll never understand why DC didn’t scrap the whole thing after JMS left the title).
JMS wrote a conjugal visit in Superman 705 with the couple in bed together and Lois asks Clark why he doesn’t return home. Good question!
Superman 704 written by Wilson (she filled in for JMS) was a Lois centric issue. She’s going to meet Superman somewhere on the road and ends up running in to an old boyfriend and meeting his wife and kid. She thinks about the choices she’s made in her life and the story ends with a Clark/Lois night flight where they reaffirm their love for the other.
Please don’t get me wrong, this isn’t about the current state of their non-relationship. It is what it is. Right now the prevailing notion seems to be the relationship was boring. I disagree *but* I also know everybody is only as good as their last review.
In my opinion what’s lost in all of this is Lois & Clark haven’t been living in the same house or together since the World of New Krypton story began in 2009. They spent that year separated and then Grounded began with that long walk to nowhere. To be fair there was more interaction between the couple there than was seen during World of New Krypton.
Personally? I don’t think Superman in general or the marriage in particular has been treated well by DC since Kurt Busiek left the Superman title in 2008. I loved his run. His Superman 654 is one of the sweetest & best marriage focused issues I’ve ever read and in my opinion shows it works just fine.
This isn’t a slam against any other writer but it's my commentary on the direction DC decided to take the character.
World of New Krypton was a very interesting idea but I wasn’t thrilled with the execution to say the least. I don’t know what anybody was thinking when Grounded was given the green light, although Cornell’s Action starring Lex Luthor was really well done.
At this point I think it’s time to step back and let it all play out. Next month DC is releasing the Smallville Season 11 title. This will prominently feature a committed Superman. I think Miller might be able to remind many who might have forgotten what the relationship was like pre World of New Krypton. He might be able to show that Lois Lane doesn’t lose her strength or drag Superman down by being in a relationship with him. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out in the upcoming months.
About Robinson's answers here. He apparently does not see the problem and keeps making the same mistakes!
His premise is one enormous Women In Refrigerators moment. I am not saying that Robinson is misogynistic, I do not know him personally and he sounds like a good guy. The thing is, after all the criticism he got for his dialogue, implying that Huntress and Lady Blackhawk had a threesome with Hal Jordan so that the male character looks good and the many, many gratuitous deaths of Cry for Justice, only there to raise the stakes with protagonists yelling JUSTICE!, you would think that he would be more careful now.
But no! He does it again! Here he explains he did not kill Lois and the Amazons because they were women but because they are the plot point that drive Superman and Wonder-Woman forward in their actions. That is what drives the plot. First of all, that is very, very reminiscing of Cry for Justice. Second of all, that is exactly what Women in Refrigerators are!
WIR is not about calling other writers misogynists, it is about bad habits writers tend to have towards female characters, treating them as plot points to impact the protagonist. James Robinson just does not seem to learn anything from his mistakes!

Well, he admitted that he was taking cue from soap opera writing. Makes sense now.
THANK YOU for getting into Wonder Woman. Shes always been a warrior, and THE REST of the hero community holds an ethical stance that she just upholds for her sake. The Amazons dont teach non-lethal combat. She holds back from stabbing and breaking her combatants because the hero community has rules she respects. She shows compasion when its due, and she tries not to fight. And she even trys not to kill. But once someone with power comes at her with no leash on how far they will go, she returns the favor. And Batman and Superman know this, which is why they freaked out in Infinite Crisis. She doesnt have the same code they have, and i hate when people act like every hero in the world has a no killing/no guns policy.
There is this documentary I watched in school starring John Klease, about human interaction. About why people get so angry while driving, and one of the reasons mentioned was that there is no face to face. If someone bumped into you in person and said excuse me you would be fine, but because you can't get the face to face interaction you (meaning anyone) get angry. I think its the same with the Internet, it provides anonymity. People feel like they can get away with anything and that it doesn't really matter. They don't see how their comments effect the person, there is no face to face.
There was a skit on SNL where Internet posters who make inappropriate comments meet face to face with those people who they made mean and inappropriate comments about. The person always ended up looking like the worst person ever.
I always wanted to see Lois and Superman have a baby, he already seemed fatherly. And it would be interesting to see Lois thinking about what is more important to her, her child or her career. And I think since its a comic there is no problem with saying yes he is an alien but they had a baby together. Its not like there are facts that prove they couldn't.
That is an interesting idea. To help Lois grow as a character have her as a separate character from Superman. Apart from him, so she can be her own character. So that when they bring them back together she isn't just Superman's girlfriend. She will be a totally rounded out character all her own.
