so is the finale supposed to be anything special (in terms of an amazing conclusion) or is it just that there always was a fabled "27th issue" and now they're finally releasing but in truth the series will be no more concluded then it already was?

The series was done. The only real loose end to tie up is Ambrose.

...and they tied it up quite nicely. This was an ending that only Warren Ellis could deliver.
