Hypothetically what if Jean Grey never existed...

Which psionic mutant would be the best host for the PF?

I believe storm was a phoenix user at one point and Her powers were doubled. I kinda want to see how powerful magneto would be with the phoenix power...maybe bend every spoon in the universe???

I'd say Storm she always seem like she would have wield it in a way no one would have thought about.

I would have liked to see Scarlet Witch with it as well.

If Jean never existed, I would think it would go to Emma.

@Rell127: The phoenix force needs a telepathic host. It needs to be a character with psi-powers. The only instance in which a non-telepath wielded the PF was a what if storyline in which Vulcan harnessed it through his energy manipulation powers. Otherwise we're talking psychics here.

Because without Jean/Scott, it would be Emma/Scott the entire time, and it would just seem to complete the circle still.

I believe there was a what if where Cyclops became its host. I also recall a panel of Spidey possessed by it. I think I have the scans, let me look. And is it specifically stated anywhere that it needs a telepathic mutant?

Anyways, I'd say Emma or Prof. X would be the next best ones if we have to stick to psionic mutants only.

I'm no expert.. but in the comics, I think it can possess whoever it wants. I think I have a panel of it taking over Wolverine(don't have context to it, but it still looks pretty cool).

Also the host doesn't really need to be a mutant or even have powers as evident by Phoenix IX of Earth-691 who was a normal human before becoming a host.

Other than Rachel or Xavier, Franklin Richards. He was shown to be a host in an alternate timeline

- Jean is one of the most powerful and level headed mutants and the Phoenix Force still exerted control and killed billions, I really do not see how any of these choices are any better than what we all saw failed already.

- IMO the best option would be a minor cosmic character who would have a better scope of the grand scheme than a human or mutant and better suited to handling that kind of power.

I would like to see Phyla-Vell in that case.

Edit: though Moondragon would probably be more suitable, as a competent psi, person whose experienced death and resurrection, having experience with being the conduit of a cosmic entity, and previous wielder of the Mind Gem. Phyla of course has a few of these things in common.

- She is still pretty young and inexperienced, I'm not a big follower of the cosmic line so I'd have to do some research before suggesting someone

As long as it's not Spider-man I'm game anyways. It will probably be either Jean again or Hope Summers I think.

- Phyla is just so new to the Marvel U, even with the experiences during the current cosmic events I do not see the breadth of experience for the role. She has sure accomplished a lot in her limited time in the Marvel U, and maybe would be a great pick if this took place 5-10 years from now, but I do not see it cureently. I agree Moondragon is a better choice of the two you gave.

Now when the topic of jean not exisiting as a possible host, is it just the 616 universe or all together? If it is at all, across all realities and timelines, the rachel Grey should not be an option. Now as far as my psionic mutant choice, I'm going with Exodus. He has telepathic and telekintic abilites, with astral plane projection in his power set. Not to mention other great abilites. Then for non-psionic I choose Havok. He can passively absorb cosmic energy, but he can actively drain and absorb energy from the stars itself at close range. also he fly and survive unaided in a vacuum on his own powers.

@bigbadwolfx0: Well the Gaia thing is actually rooted in the Mythology, In Norse mythology Jhord who was the Norse equivalent of Gaia was his mother. Also in Marvel the Elder gods are all way more powerful than skyfathers like Odin and Zeus so there's really not a huge difference in power level between Gaia and the Phoenix.
