    Born in Mount Vernon, New York where he lived until moving to attend the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts where he became known for his interest in science fiction, fantasy, and role playing games.

    He created a long running comic strip series known as "What's New with Phil and Dixie" which satirized various role playing games and formats for Dragon Magazine. He later served as the graphic artist in Robert Aspirin's Myth Adventures series and has contributed to a number of comic book limited series including Angel and the Ape, Stanley and His Monster, and Plastic Man as well as pursuing his own creation of Buck Godot and most recently with his wife, Kaja Foglio co-created the steampunk adventure series; Girl Genius which was won a number of awards including the 2008 Outstanding Comic and the Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story for 2009, 2010, and 2011 respectively. It has also been nominated for various other awards including an Eisner, Web Cartoonist's Choice Awards, and a Squiddy.
