Agent Coulson smiles too much

Not at all. He is awesome and what makes him awesome is his character. The smiling is a part of that. His look is very straight laced but his personality (smiling is a part of his) gives the viewer a sense that there is something a lot deeper going on. It also makes him charming and it looks like it puts the people he interacts with a little off guard, like they don't know how to take him.
O_o.
He's supposed to be the only relatively light-hearted person in a world of espionage and things that can destroy the world.
Also...
He's probably an LMD who is trying very hard to mimic Coulson's personality.
I'm still hoping he's a prototype version of the Vision.
I don't want him to be Vision. Primarily because he just... doesn't fit Vision's personality. But if he's a predecessor to a real Vision... maybe.

That is true. Maybe they could have him emotionally regress into that personality, when he realizes what he really is? That'd be cool.
Maybe he's just a happy guy?
This is one of the things I hate about this "grim and gritty" fad. People now look at a smile as a character flaw.

I think it's okay to have both.
Maybe he´s a skrull mole who can´t help smiling a lot thinking how he´s completely fooled these human scum.
Why is that a problem? Some people are just happy people. Also he works for nick fury so you kinda have to put yourself in a happy mode everyday when you know your boss his him.

@sagejonathan: Yes...it bothers me as well!
I thinks it's cool how he's in this world, which when you think about it is pretty messed up and he's pretty much always in way over his head he just cracks on and gets the job done with a smile and style. My favourite addition to any adaptation of a comic book series, joint with Daryl and Merle.
