What the heck? Laurence Fishburn as Perry White

I really have no idea how this could be seen as a good move. I watched CSI and you couldn't make him act interesting if you set him on fire. The guy looks intimidating, but he doesn't seem to fit the profile of a over-worked battle-hardened editor.

#2 Posted by sesquipedalophobe (4895 posts) - - Show Bio

It's because he already played Silver Surfer, isn't it?

#3 Posted by mark5 (1220 posts) - - Show Bio

Lol i think the casting is pretty cool. brings a modernized feel to the superman mythos.

Morpheus?

#5 Posted by JoseDRiveraTCR7 (1020 posts) - - Show Bio

I much rather watch his daughter. She should be Perry White. A naked one.

DC's answer to Samuel L. Jackson.

Mr. Kent...Do you wish to take the red pill or blue pill XD
#9 Posted by Pokeysteve (9055 posts) - - Show Bio

He's going to try and get Superman to take pills isn't he?

#10 Posted by sesquipedalophobe (4895 posts) - - Show Bio

Most people underestimate his acting abilities. He even made this believable.

#11 Posted by Primmaster64 (21662 posts) - - Show Bio

*insert Blue/Red pill jokes here*

I'm looking foward to this.

#12 Posted by Gambit1024 (10217 posts) - - Show Bio

...So he's an amalgam of J. Jonah Jameson and Robbie Robertson?

I'm in.

#13 Posted by Kal'smahboi (3773 posts) - - Show Bio
@Primmaster64: Me too. A lot of people are talking about poor casting choices so far but I haven't heard one I don't have faith in. Except for Supes himself, but that's only because I'd never heard of Cavill before.
#14 Posted by Primmaster64 (21662 posts) - - Show Bio
@Kal'smahboi: Why do people say his a bad actor?
#15 Posted by Kal'smahboi (3773 posts) - - Show Bio
@Primmaster64: I don't think many people do. It's mostly just they associate him with the Matrix so much because they've seen him in little else.
#16 Posted by OracleX (365 posts) - - Show Bio

I don't think he had good material to work with on CSI. People expected his character to be as interesting William Peterson's character but it just didn't work. I like the idea of meeting him because his manner seems charming. Visually though, you are more intimidated by his figure rather than by how he could ruin your name in print.

Sure, why not.
Imagine what would happen if they made a black comic book character white, though.

I have a feeling this will suck, Zack Snyder does not have a very good track record.

You didn't like 300 or Watchmen?
#22 Posted by PikminMania (4766 posts) - - Show Bio
@Gambit1024: I haven't seen 300 and Watchmen a 2/4

They were both really disappointing, and by both I mean Watchmen. But out of what I've heard around the internet, 300 is overrated.
#23 Posted by Gambit1024 (10217 posts) - - Show Bio
@PikminMania: Dude, watch 300. It was true to the book.

What didn't you like about Watchmen? Lack of giant squid-monster?
#24 Posted by FortressoftheMoon (685 posts) - - Show Bio

I am so down with this!

I can't wait to see the scene

(What's love got to do with it's Ike Turner as Perry White)

Perry White: Clark, Clark! Eat some cake, Clark! Gooddam Clark this is some good cake. Come on eat some cake. I said eat some of this cake, Clark. Lookahere Clark, just eat some damn cake! Clark, BOooy you uh lost ya damn mind. Just eat some of dis cake. What the hell is ya problem?

SMACK!

Well lets see a british Superman, A black Perry White, A hillbilly General Zod, an Aussie Jor-EL, I admit I lol'ed. I'm still going to see it for the lulz. and plus I have $30 riding that the ginger kid that is every single Zack Synder's movie is going to be Jimmy Olsen.

funny, thought the same thing when they made Nick Fury black.... though they used the whole alternate universe thing...

I like Fishburne.. it could be fun.

I'm ok with this, he's a good actor and he'l do great

#27 Posted by PikminMania (4766 posts) - - Show Bio
@Gambit1024: I always called it the v****a monster, I never knew a real name lol.

1. No monster.

2. The acting wasn't very good, save for Rorschach.

3. There was no mystery to the movie because the opening scene shows that it has to be Rorschach or Ozymandias

4. Honestly I think the only reason they included that was so it would be more actiony and so they could include the 300 reference.

5. Watch the movie was an action movie, Watchmen the comic was not.

6. There was little to none of the phenomenal supporting cast, which was basically half of the book.
#28 Posted by Gambit1024 (10217 posts) - - Show Bio
@PikminMania: Lol @v****a monster

At least you gave me legit reasons. Whenever I ask why somebody didn't like it, they usually mock Dr. Manhattan's penis. True story.

Anyways, I have high hopes for this movie. Unlike 300 or Watchmen, there are a LOT of Superman stories and origins to dissect and make a movie out of. Besides, Nolan is watching this movie, so you know he' not gonna let this movie suck. Nolan personally met with Snyder (who was skeptical about taking the director's chair at the time) and told him what he wanted to do. Also, this may or may not be DC's last chance at Superman, so if they mess up, they are screwed. And not the "I'm gonna make this movie for lol's and who cares if it makes sh*t" kind of screwed I mean the "Crap, if this fails, not only do we lose all sorts of respect, but we'll lose the actual character" kind of screwed. Oh, not to mention if Snyder messes this up, it will be very hard for him to get another directing job. I mean, what did Bryan Singer do after his Superman fail? Not much.

All in all, I trust Snyder and WB this time. If we get another GL with this movie, I'll sceam.
#29 Posted by PikminMania (4766 posts) - - Show Bio
@Gambit1024: If Nolan keeps his word and follows this like a vulture follows a limping lizard in the desert., it could be good.

Would be awesome if Marvel made Storm white in a movie. I would love to see the reaction of the fanboys/girls.

@jloneblackheart: Yeah, he was the reason I bothered to see Hoodlum and the Matrix. You have to admire his work and overlook everyone else.

#34 Posted by Jean_Luc_LeBeau (82981 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm a little tired of this move to be honest, but I also understand it. Its a shame these companies didnt bother to create diverse characters to begin with. Had they done so there wouldn't be a need to "re-imagine" their ethnicity now.

#35 Posted by Kal'smahboi (3773 posts) - - Show Bio
@Gambler: Maybe they did.

Who thinks that Snyder has an in with DC and Perry White is black in the DCnU?
#36 Posted by sesquipedalophobe (4895 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm pretty sure he'll nail Great Ceasar's ghost with such proficiency and smoothness, there will be no need for Superman or a story at all. I imagine him shopping, simply marveled at his local store's low, low prices.

Thats kind of more of the same though. My point is that Perry White could have easily been black from the very beginning. (Insert character name here) could have been (insert ethnicity here) from the beginning. But since they weren't all these recent attempts to rectify that situation seem disingenuous in my opinion.

@Gambler: I completely agree. I think that creators should keep the reality of the diversity of life in mind when they create new characters and situations but there's no point in changing a man's ethnicity just for the sake of diversity. That's almost racist, itself.

That...that happens like all the time. Maybe not "comic book character" but "character?" Oh yeah. Non-white characters get portrayed by white actors on the silver screen. And when this happens, people are usually rightfully upset because non-white actors and actresses are so underrepresented in the industry. Which is a shame.

Agreed. If its okay to change Spiderman's ethnicity then it should be equally okay to change Blade's. But just for the record I'm not a fan of changing any major comicbook characters race. In my opinion a CB characters look is the single most important aspect.

@.Mistress Redhead.: that's hella rude,  what you dont seem to get is most  characters  super heroes or  minor characters are white  so  you have the x-men and all u have  is bishop, storm, and darwin    but  you hav an array of white characters  so to change a black character into white  when there is barely  a few is an insult!
i dont mind a white blade  but lets see a black wolverine and a asian cyclops
i dont mind a spanish storm
but lets see a black xavior
and a Arab magneto

wake up  theres barely any  black characters in marvel  my count is 40 black characters out of  thousands and you wanna change the few  that they have.truly insulting

Agreed, do not change their race, look, nothing! if your going to make a movie with them in it.. then bloody well give me the one I want from the comics! *nods*

All I can think of is the spiel in Chasing Amy about Darth Vader ;)

not anymore or less insulting than turning white character black. if they really want to add some black characters then fine, that's great. But don't think that because Superman has a badass history, you can f*** with his ethnicity and all of sudden black Superman is cool. Stop relying on already established characters to push a race or sex agenda. grow up.
