Adrian Veidt was born to rich immigrants in 1939, the very same year they arrived in America. He was quickly found to be very intelligent and chose to hide his intelligence in mediocrity, earning average notes in school. His parents were fabulously wealthy and when Veidt turned 17 they bequeathed their fortune to him, which he promptly gave away to charity. "to demonstrate the possibility of achieving anything from nothing."
Veidt took a pilgrimage across the Mediterranean, Asia Minor, and Persia following the route of Alexander the Great, whom he idolized. Before returning to America, Veidt consumed a ball of hashish and it was in this state that he decided to be a super-hero. Adopting Rameses II name and Alexander’s free-booting style he returned to America intent to change it for the better, first as a crime-fighter and then later as the world’s savior/conqueror. During his long career he earned the moniker ‘The world’s smartest man.’
In 1975, Veidt retired from crime-fighting two years before the passage of the Keene Act which made vigilantism illegal, he came forward with his true identity and profited from his image and presented himself to the public as a showman and philanthropist. He founded several companies and merchandised in everything from action-figures to perfume.
During the next ten years he schemes to save the world from the threat of nuclear annihilation. Employing hundreds of employees over several of his companies he begins a plot that will in the end cost the lives of Edward Blake (The Comedian), Rorschach, and the millions of innocent bystanders in New York City when he fakes an alien invasion which succeeds in pulling back the two great superpowers of the world (the U.S. and the USSR) from mutually assured destruction.
Deciding that the ends justify the means, he succeeds where his idol failed, making the explosion hit all of New York city, blowing half of the place to smithereens, killing many innocents in the process. However, his plan, regardless how vulgar it may have seemed, worked, and in the end he was able avert World War III, his plan from the start.
