I can't even remember what the last comic that Orion actually played a major roll in...was it the old Justice League World War 3?

Yeah, something like that.

His strength and stamina rival that of Superman, but I guess he's not that popular.

I think it's because of his anger management issues.

he's pretty ugly too

#8 Posted by Prodigal Son (3471 posts) - 5 years, 10 months ago - Show Bio

Plus, his helmet makes him look like a piece of male anatomy. And what are those things he flies around on. I've always thought those things were stupid looking. They make him squat in mid-air likes he's gotta take a crap. "Look out below, Orion's flying overhead."

Yeah, his flying thingy does look pretty rubbish. Even Michael Turner had a hard time making it look cool with Batman riding it!

Ugh, don't drag Michael Turner into this. I'm probably one of a handful of people in the world who don't like his art.

#11 Posted by Cosmic Sentinel (3744 posts) - 5 years, 10 months ago - Show Bio

Really? I do think some of his characters look samey.

#12 Posted by Prodigal Son (3471 posts) - 5 years, 10 months ago - Show Bio

Only some?

#13 Posted by Cosmic Sentinel (3744 posts) - 5 years, 10 months ago - Show Bio

Weeeell, okaaay, most of them. I still like his work though. He just needs to be a bit more adventurous with faces.

#14 Posted by Prodigal Son (3471 posts) - 5 years, 10 months ago - Show Bio

At least his physical anatomy is fairly correctly proportional. I can't really put a finger on what it is that bugs me about his art (apart from the faces). There's this "pinched" feeling to everything.

Ha! Orions flying zimmerframe. Mock it if you like but don't deny that you'd love one.

When did Orion become a big hulking boorish thug as portrayed in "Death of the New Gods" ?

In fact, when did he become Drax the Destroyer ????????

Also, I think Orion is supposed to be at least as strong as Superman, maybe stronger.

It's just the art. Also, Jim Starlin doesn't know a thing about New Gods.

True Orion was a meathead in Death of the New Gods

Orion does have a relativley boring look, and  I wish someone would update it while staying true to Kirby's original design.
He's been depicted as a dumb, angry brute (ala Drax, the Destroyer) when he's so much more.  He's finally got the respect and recognition for being one of the strongest heroes in the DCU, but he's not as strong as Superman.
