Plot Summary

Overview

The new GUARDIAN's stunning introduction! You know you want it.

After defeating Sasquatch last issue, the Wrecking Crew bring him, in chains to meet with some demons. Little do they know that they are being watched.

Back at headquarters, Talisman continues to let out her rage at Michael Pointer over the death of her father and Alpha Flight. He sits imobolized without saying a word. She lets out her powers in anger over the idea of Pointer being the new Guardian. Agent Brown tries explaining again that Pointer wasn't to blame. He was being used by the Collective and is as much a victim as everyone else. He also needs the suit to help control the power that is left and Omega Flight needs a Guardian. Talisman raises her hand to Pointer's face as her power builds up. With tears in his eyes, Pointer begs her to go ahead and do it. This makes her hestitate. She then questions having an American wearing the Guardian suit. Agent Brown explains that Alpha Flight wasn't about being Canadian but rather serving Canada. They are interrupted by a news report of the Wrecking Crew's rampage as Talisman is about to leave to find Sasquatch. They can see on the television that he is beaten and bound by the Wrecking Crew. They prepare to go to his rescue but USAgent refuses to have Pointer go with them. He doesn't want an untrained rookie watching his back. Talisman also says she will not work with her father's murderer. Michael Pointer is left alone.

The Wrecking Crew have found the doorway to another dimension. They seek the power that is said to be within. They are met by a giant demon that congratulates them on their destruction. He and his demons plan to devour the Earth. The man following them reveals himself and transforms into Beta Ray Bill. He begins to fight the Wrecking Crew. Fighting both the Wrecking Crew and the demons proves to be too much as Beta Ray Bill lets off a powerful blast. He falls and smashes into the ground. Wrecker takes advantage of Beta Ray Bill's weaken state and prepares to continue to beat him.

USAgent should die. I mean why should that SOB be running around and Cap is dead. Sometimes comics like life sux.

I like the new team, even though are not actually together or getting along yet. Sasquatch as team leader...I like the idea. Talisman angry with Guardian over killing her father and the rest of the team. I felt that emotion. And I felt his guilt over what he was forced to do while possessed by the Collective. Arachne...why not? USAgent getting saved by Arachne priceless. Her daughter is funny by the way. Beta Ray Bill...never cared for him...time will tell if he gets better. I hope Sasquatch gets up soon because that is two issues of him being a victim of kidnap from the over used and lame Wrecking Crew.

To sum this up. Sasquatch, Arachne, Talisman, and Guardian good for the team. USAgent is a loser and Beta Ray Bill is boring to me. Why not two replacements? I liked the cover btw.

    Missed opportunity for greatness

While the old chestnut about the pacing being slow because Omega Flight was downgraded from an on-going to a mini-series is beginning to wear thin, the potential within this series is not being presented despite Scot Kolins attempts to illustrate an attentively-detailed story. The art and the words are not working together and that is why the book comes across as lackluster.

Unfortunately, this issue (# 3, the middle issue) was not the time to produce a clunker. This was the issue where everybody should have brought their A-game---from the writer to the editor to the letterer---to justify the existence of this title in a croweded field of super-teams and prove that this team deserves to have an on-going series.

    It didn't happen.

First and foremost, the Wrecking Crew got too much of the dialog, and making them say they're scared negates the beefing up that they've been undergoing in the last two issues. Moreover, most of their witless banter was unnecessary and should have been cut for greater impact.

Second, Agent Brown is in over his head. Charged by the Prime Minister to put a team together to defend Canada from threats like Diasy (taken down by Arachne and US Agent) and The Wrecking Crew, by his own admission couldn't get a team of Canadians together in time, sent a traumatized Sasquatch alone to fight the Crew, did not stand up to Tony Stark, and didn't say anything about the bigger picture (saving peoples lives) when Talisman and US Agent threw their hissy-fits. Mind you, I totally agree with Talisman's argument against Pointer, but Brown is supposed to be the head honcho...but he's not acting like one. Lastly, Michael Pointer is portrayed as a human time-bomb who could "flare out like a sun." Yeah, I'd want someone like that watching my back.

Lastly, if they had just moved the "This is cosmic!" line to the full-page spread of Beta Ray Bill, I might have been able to forget (for a moment) that Snowbird and Shaman('s Ghost) are not included, which would've given a glimmer of hope that the good guys have a chance to prevail.
