the_outsider's Omega Flight #1 - Alpha To Omega, Part 1 review

We can now put that "other" Alpha Flight (2004) to rest.

Anyone remember the god awful Alpha Flight relaunch in 2004? If not you're very lucky. It was like they tried to create another Deadpool comic book minus any actual funny humor.

Thankfully Omega Flight is nothing like that, although it's not without it's problems. Nothing major, in fact I can't help but think that this first issue was written when this was still suppose to be an ongoing series. See all those characters on the cover? Most of them aren't even in this issue. In fact the main character isn't on the cover at all: Sasquatch. You don't even find out who the new Vindicator is in this issue, it's even played off as somewhat of a small cliffhanger. The only problem with that is that his identity was revealed several weeks ago in Civil War: The Initiative. Again though this isn't Oeming's fault.

This issue is more of an explanation as to why Canada needs a superhuman team. It does a good job of doing that, as all this makes sense in the Post-Civil War Marvel. If this was an ongoing series, it would be an acceptable first issue. This being a mini-series however, it makes you feel like some time might have been wasted here. #1 of 5 is now over, and most of the team hasn't even met... hell, most of the team wasn't even featured in the issue.

All in all it was an ok first issue, I just hope the entire mini-series isn't about the formation of the team and we actually get to see them in action as a unit. There's nothing wrong with an entire story arc being about the formation of such a team... but the thing is we already know who's in the team... so get to it.
