Plot Summary

Old Man Logan is a character in an eight-issue story arc in the Wolverine ongoing series by the writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven that debuted with Wolverine #66 in June 2008. Set more than fifty years in the future, it features a similar set up to another Millar book, Wanted, in which the world's super villains ganged together to finally destroy almost all superheroes.

When the villains attacked, Logan was in the mansion until an explosion that killed Jubilee happened showing a full roster of X men villains. Wolverine killed every one of them only to reveal the enemies were illusions created by Mysterio and Wolverine actually killed the whole X men. Wolverine left the mansion broken and tried to kill himself but failed. Wolverine then decided to never draw his claws again and became a pacifist.

Logan lives with his wife Maureen, his son Scotty and daughter Jade on a plot of land in Sacramento, California, now part of land known as "Hulkland". He requires money to pay his rent to the landlords of this territory: the descendants of Bruce Banner, the Hulk, who are a product of years of incestuous procreation originating with Banner and his first cousin She-Hulk. In order to pay off his rent, Logan accepts a job from Hawkeye: help him navigate across the country and deliver a secret package, possibly illegal.

They Journey across America which is now owned by the new Kingpin (originally Magneto), Doctor Doom, and the Red Skull (who's now the president). They make their Journey finally reaching their destination of New Babylon. It then turned out Hawkeye's package was the super soldier serum and he was helping out on a revolution only to realize it was a sting. Hawkeye was killed and Logan was knocked out. The bodies were then taken to the Red Skull (dressed as Captain America) where Wolverine gained consciousness and fought the Red Skull. Wolverine finally broke his pacifist ways by decapitating the Red Skull with Captain America's shield. Wolverine then took the reward money and escaped with Iron man's armor. Logan then returned in time only to find his family killed by the Hulk gang. Logan then drawed his claws for the first time in 50 years and left with a vengeance.

Wolverine then went to the base of the Hulk gang and massacred everyone. Logan then went to the home of Bruce Banner (who's now an old man). Banner revealed that he had Logan's family killed so he could fight Wolverine one more time. They then fight, banner was able to knock Wolverine down without transforming but wolverine eventually stabbed Banner which made him turn into the Hulk and ate Wolverine. Sometime later while the Hulk is planning to restart the Hulk gang until Wolverine ripped out of Hulk's stomach killing him.

The story was concluded in Giant Size Old Man Logan (September 2009) with Wolverine riding off into the sunset with Bruce Banner Junior, heavily implying that this alternate version of Wolverine is the same character as "The Hooded Man" version.

Wolverine #66: Old Man Logan, Part 1

All we know is that they disappeared and evil triumphed and the bad guys have been calling the shots ever since. What happened to Wolverine is the biggest mystery of all.

For 50 years, no one has heard hide nor hair from him…and in his place stands an old man called Logan. A man concerned only about his family. A man pushed to the brink by the HULK GANG. A man forced to help an old friend—the blind archer, HAWKEYE—to drive three thousand miles to secure his family’s safety. Get ready for the ride of your life, Logan.

SPOILERS

In an unknown place, unknown time period, the beaten and bloodied figure of Wolverine stumbles in the woods, under a red moon. The heroes fell defeated—no one yet knows exactly how—but Wolverine was hurt more than others. He disappeared and became a completely different person.

Now, 50 years into the future, a secluded farm in the desert of what used to be Sacramento, California. An old man on a horse—barely reminiscent of the fighter he used to be—gets back home. His oldest son notifies him that the tractor is broken again; Logan tells his wife he couldn't get the money for the rent. The collectors are about to come and demand their money.

Logan admits to his wife, Maureen, that he failed himself and his family. He can't pay the landlords, Hulk's grandchildren, and has possibly doomed his family for his mistakes.

Two days later, the Hulk Gang arrives at the farm and demands the money. The leader, Miss Banner, already knows Logan has no money to pay. Her brothers Charlie and Otis are ready to punish him. Logan doesn't react to their yells and suddenly pops his claws, cutting Charlie in a half, to the horror of his family. A moment later, everything is back to normal—the skirmish was all in Logan's head. He then answers that he is willing to take his punishment and the Hulk brothers hit him in a way that would've killed a normal person, the old man showing no objection. The Hulk Gang wants double payment next month and leaves the farm.

Logan is in his bed, bandaged and healing. An old friend, Hawkeye — now a blind man—pays him a visit. Hawkeye offers a solution: Logan will accompany him on a delivery job to New Babylon in the East Coast and get the money he needs for the rent. The next morning Logan says goodbye to his family. He's surprised to see the blind man in the driver's seat, but Clint says Logan's job is to read the map and warn him of obstacles. Logan is also surprised by the vehicle—a new version of the Spider-Mobile. The trip just started and from what the map shows—America divided to 6 different dangerous turfs—it won't be a smooth ride.

Always the redhead

Logan's attraction to redheads is evident even in the far future, in completely another life.

One of the few survivors from the old age of heroes, Clint Barton is now a blind man doing shows with his old bow and arrows. Too bad he mostly hits the crowd.

Pimp my Spider-Mobile

Fifty years ago Wolverine and Jubilee are at the mansion and receive distress calls from the Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D., Fantastic Four, Wakanda and other places.  When she tries calling back, no one answers.  Wolverine tells her they need to get out of there right away but an explosion hits before they can move.  Jubilee is seemingly dead with a piece of rubble jabbed through her head.  Logan is then confronted by an army of supervillains.   They begin attacking and Wolverine tries fighting them off while the students begin to evacuate.  Wolverine is slicing and chopping the villains to shred while calling out to the others, wondering where the rest of the X-Men are.  He finally manages to kill all the villains on his own.  As Bullseye lies in his arms dying, he begs Logan to stop, saying he was supposed to be their friend.

The mist clears and Wolverine finds Jubilee dead in his arms instead.  Mysterio stands behind him and thanks him for his work.  He asks Wolverine if he thinks he could really take on forty supervillains on his own.  As Mysterio vanishes, Logan is left seeing the massacred bodies of the X-Men bleeding all over the place.  Blaming himself, he simply walked away crying.  He tried killing himself by letting a train drive over his head but it didn't work.  Now Clint knows why Logan vowed to never hurt another living soul.

The next day as they drive through Doom's Head, IL and pass some cloned dinosaurs, little do they realize that the Venom suit has seemingly found a new host.
