He wouldn't.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Character » Obi-Wan Kenobi appears in 587 issues.
Obi-Wan Kenobi was a Jedi Knight who was instructed by Qui-Gon Jinn and he himself taught Anakin Skywalker. Both Kenobi and Anakin fought in the Clone Wars which led to Anakin turning to the dark side and betraying the order. Obi-Wan hid on the planet Tatooine where he watched over Anakin's son Luke, whom he began training to be a Jedi, like his father once was.
Where would Obi-Wan rank among most powerful Jedi's?
OP never said anything about Top 10, just where in the top, so he would probably be in the Top 100's.
Not among the most powerful, but one of the most experienced, I guess. As a duelist, he also ranks quite highly.
He's powerful, but nothing would list him among the top force users in the history of the Jedi Order. That doesn't mean he wasn't powerful perse, but he was more recognized for his morality and skills as a duelist.

He was arguably the second strongest Jedi at the time of the movies, but if you go all the way thought the jedi history he wasn't that amazing.
Doubtful, Yoda and Mace Windu hold the top two positions I reckon. I would say however that Obi-Wan is in the top 5.
@Malonius said:
Obi-wan is the ideal Jedi Knight, but by no means near the top in terms of Force wielding. That he was able to hang with Maul and Vader says a lot for his dueling skills.
He is definitely not the ideal Jedi knight.

Luke Skywalker holds #1.

In the expanded universe he is. Taking the films alone, he doesn't show enough power to warrant being given the top place.

He's honorable, compassionate, skillful, disciplined, wise, humble, loyal....what's not ideal?
@Malonius: He falls in love several times, and gives in to his emotions more than the "ideal" Jedi would.
@KnightRise Thanks for the almost-call out.
As Nova and JXM said, He isn't one of the most powerful Jedi, those go to Luke, Yoda, and Satele Shan (arguably)
Honestly, i'm not even entirely convinced of his dueling abilities. Perhaps top ten, but i don't think he'd make it too much further than that.
On another, offtopic, note, @ShootingNova , @Silver2467 and @JediXMan We should have a discussion about the Top Ten Jedi, kinda like that Sith one that started and never finished.

Haha you're welcome

Yes. Do. That. Maybe break it into categories.
In the book ROTS the masters seemed to think pretty highly of him. And he generally got the job done without being a general jerk (take notes yoda and windu), so personality points. He might not have the highest force power, but he was good and effective. He did take down the chosen one in his prime.
@JamesKM716: I had a brief talk about Silver, but yeah........ it wasn't too good, LOL. But maybe with more people around, he might reconsider. Though we'll have to wait until he gets active again.

@JediXMan: @ShootingNova: Would he rank in the top 10 for Jedi duellists?
Hmm........ probably around 6, or a bit less.
@Malonius: In addition to what JamesKM716 said, twice in the films Obi-Wan used forbidden marks of contact that are considered Dark side techniques (against Maul in Phantom Menace and Vader in Revenge of the Sith).
@Markus_Langbourn: I highly doubt he's in the top 5. There are other Jedi that are simply signifacently faster than Kenobi.
@guttridgeb: The more the merrier!
@ShootingNova: I figure we could start now and continue when he joins in?
@JamesKM716: @ShootingNova: Would it be an idea to do it in a PM or a different thread so as to avoid hijacking this one?
master in the lightsaber, master in jedi mind tricks. all in all in the top 20. dont know what it takes to become a force ghost but if qui-gon jin could do it...........

@guttridgeb: Preferrably a PM.
Theres not much I'd be able to add to the conversation, but definitely add me to the group PM. I'd love to hear what you guys have to say

Interesting. I'm not familiar with all the dueling lore. Care to elaborate?

Obi-Wan never utilized Rage against Vader on Mustafar, at all. In fact, he did the opposite, he let go.
@Malonius: Obi-Wan used a mark of contact called sai tok against Darth Maul. Sai tok involves slicing a foe through their waist/belly and is considered to be barbaric and evidence of the Dark side. Against Vader, he used mou kei which involves lopping off several limbs at once, it too is forbidden.
@guttridgeb: Are you sure these marks of contact are never allowed for Jedi? I looked them up on Wookiepedia, which indicated that those moves are favored by the Sith for the brutal message they send, but that Jedi can use them as last resorts. Obi-wan was fighting out of his league in both fights and needed to win. He wasn't using these moves maliciously or to make some kind of brutal point. He did seem angry right after Maul killed his Master, but not when he cut Maul in half. I didn't see any problem with Obi-wan vs. Vader. Obi-wan even warned Vader what was about to happen. Walking away without putting Anakin out of his misery seemed more cruel.
Thanks for the info though. I love how developed this stuff is.
@Malonius: Yeah, one of the main reasons I love Star Wars so much is because of the detail put into the franchise.
According to The Jedi Path, both are forbidden. I'll give you the exact quotes:
Sai tok slices an entire body into two halves. This act is rightly considered barbaric and evidence of the furious emotions of the dark side. Unless you're fighting droids, no student of mine should ever use sai tok.
Mou kei is a forbidden variant, literally meaning "to dismember". It involves the act of cutting through several limbs at once. You should never need to use mou kei against a living being given the alternatives.
Both taken from The Jedi Path.
This does leave it a bit open to interpretation and Jedi could use them in extreme situations such as Obi-Wan's fight with Maul. However, given Obi-Wan's great skill with his lightsaber and his higher ground advantage, I believe he could have avoided the use of mou kei against Vader had it not been for the emotional strain of the situation. As far as I'm concerned, this does nothing to make Obi-Wan seem bad but to be the perfect Jedi, he would of had to play exactly by the rules.
@Malonius: As far as we know, there are plenty. There are a lot of Jedi that we know very little about so we cannot say whether they had a brief error in judgement or if they truly are perfect jedi.
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to put my 2 cents in. As far as force powers, he doesn't rank that highly. However as a duelist he has to be top 5 easily. I'd correct those who said he beat 2 Sith lords. If you include the EU, he defeated 3 (Darth Krayt). Now this is where I think he is the greatest Jedi and what sets him apart: He is perhaps the most cunning and resourceful Jedi of all time. That has to count for something.
Bump. This is interesting because I can't seem to think of that many powerful Jedi in SW, aside from the obvious or familiar ones.
@shootingnova@wollfmyth209@greysentinel365 What do you guys think?
