    Nowhere Close to Hooked

Going into this book I was quite excited. Being a reader of many Image books, I've seen the advertising with the line "Science is the new rock 'n roll" for awhile now. This got me really excited for a new super powered team composed of scientists. At the beginning of the book we get introduced to the four leading scientists in this world. Each one is fleshed out through a fake newspaper fact sheet, which just seems like lazy writing and a waste of graphic space. Then the gears are switched to a splash of a crazy science experiment gone wrong and although that flip is exciting and the character design is good I was left feeling disappointed by the lack of violence and action in the shot. This shot is even more disappointing after finishing the book and realizing this is the only drop of action.

The second half of the book focuses on a research team in space which has been infected with some sort of virus. It's clear that this team will eventually be the super powered team as they all have weird and different deformities. This is where the book really lost me. I was coming to this expecting the most powerful scientists to create powers for themselves, but instead it's the typical accident scenario where the characters probably won't want their powers.

No powers have been revealed yet so I could change my tune if some of the powers are really creative. However, I have a feeling that the powers will be very archetypal, as there's already one guy where his super strength makes him ugly. The problem is at what point do characters stop being archetypal and start being generic?

I'm not one to get too detailed in my reviews, So I'll get right too it.What I liked:The art is good and the colors are great! It seemed simple but still detailed somehow. The story is a pretty classic science fiction type of story. It would appear as though some powerful people create something and others are dealing with the consequences (some sort of virus). One guy thinks the risk is worth the reward, another does not.I didn't like:I didn't like the cover very much. THe cover that they kept ...

A Few More Pages Needed 0

ReviewWell, that was a bit of a sudden stop.Nowhere Men started out really good. It gave a simple set up, did some nice work to introduce you to all the main characters, and then took a strange turn towards something else. This book wanted to be presenting science as the new rock and roll, and it did that excellently at first. We got a profile of all the "Beatles" type of characters introduced in a way that I thought was done rather nicely in a newspaper article. Complete bios and everything. The ...
