Norman 'Normie' Osborn was introduced in Amazing Spider-Man (vol. 1) April 1985. He was first shown as an infant, shortly after Liz Osborn gave birth to him. Normie aged almost in real-time, as in the early 90's he is depicted as a quiet five year old boy. Carrying around his favorite Spider-Man toy, Normie appeared to have broken the Osborn/Goblin curse. However, when his father, Harry Osborn once again became the Green Goblin Normie began to show animosity towards his treasured figurine.
The Osborn/Goblin curse hints at claiming Normie from a young age when, during an argument with his wife Liz Osborn, Harry asks his son if he thinks he is crazy. Normie replies with a steady "No" Liz pleads with him to stop for Normie’s sake and Harry asks Normie if he thinks he is crazy and he replies ‘no’. Being pushed to insanity by the Goblin Formula, Harry concocted an elaborate plan which included blowing up a vacant building with Spider-Man within it. Spider-Man managed to escape, though was heavily drugged by Harry. Following the fight with Spider-Man, Harry realized that both Mary Jane and Normie were inside the building. Racing inside, Harry flew from the exploding building on his glider, with Mary Jane and Normie clutched safely in his arms. Shortly thereafter, after making peace with Peter, Harry passed out. On the way to the hospital in the back of an ambulance Harry told Peter (still in his Spider-Man outfit) "You're my best friend". He then died, the altered Goblin Formula which had given him strength, taking his life. Normie was shown as overhearing this, possibly changing his view of Spider-Man and putting an end to the Osborn/Goblin curse once and for all.
During the Legacy of Evil, storyline, a trio of robotic "Goblin women" (one of a number of fail-safes prepared by Harry before his death) kidnap Normie, intending to turn him into the new Green Goblin. Spider-Man and the Molten Man (Normie's uncle) defeated them before he was exposed to the Goblin Formula.
When Norman Osborn Sr. returned from the dead, he also used a robot Goblin to kidnap his heir. This version appeared as the standard Green Goblin, causing Normie to believe his father had returned. This was part of a complex ploy to increase his visibility by playing the unfortunate grandfather.
Norman has recently dismissed the possibility of his grandson being the new Goblin, saying he has the same weaknesses as Harry.
Normie was recently seen in a Sensational Spider-Man issue playing baseball, being watched in the stands by the Molten Man and the Chameleon, with Electro in the shadows. No harm came to Normie, but the Chameleon used his safety as a bargaining chip to bring the Molten Man into his plan to attack Spider-Man after his unmasking during Civil War.
Normie has reappeared recently after One More Day. Now Normie hates his father for supposedly abandoning him when he was mistaken to be dead.
Normie Osborn mostly appears in the MC2 universe. First appearing in What if? #105, Normie wanted revenge on the Parker's for the death of his beloved Grandfather, Norman Senior. Normie told May Parker to tell her father to meet him on the Brooklyn Bridge - the same bridge where Gwen Stacy died. Normie wished to end the Spider-Goblin war by killing the original Spider-man. At this point May did not know anything about her father's past.
As Peter went to met Normie. May's mother Mary Jane told her the story of her father's past. Mary Jane told May that she was the daughter of Spider-Man. Looking through boxes in the attic May found Ben Reilly's old costume. Mary Jane followed Peter to the Brooklyn Bridge in order to help Peter. Just as it looked as if Mary Jane would meet a similar fate to that of Gwen, May Parker swung in for the rescue, clad in Ben Reilly's old uniform.
Normie and Spider-Girl battle, the two seemingly continuing their father's war. During the battle May attempts to divert Normie's attention by talking about his mother. Pointing out how his mother would not approve of Normie succumbing to the Goblin's curse, May ceases the opportunity to web a Pumpkin Bomb to Norman's hand before he can throw it. Unable to drop the bomb, it explodes in Normie's hand. The stun of the bomb exploding disorientates Normie as he stumbles out into oncoming traffic. Spider-Girl saves Normie, who is then placed in jail.
Later, after Normie escapes from prison, Peter Parker and Phil Urich are searching through all of the old Goblin Hideouts, hoping to come across Normie. Phil is knocked out by Normie when he stumbles across his hiding place, as Normie believed him to be Peter. Realizing his mistake, Normie confronts Mary Jane at her work. Attempting to kidnap her in order to force Spider-Man into a battle, Normie's plans are shattered when Mary Jane hits him with a lamp. As Normie tries to flee, Spider-Girl shows up and the two begin to fight. She is aided by another Green Goblin who turns out to be Phil Urich.
Normie ends up in a Psychiatric Institute. He tells his psychiatrist that he believes that he was always destined to be the Green Goblin. Both his father and grandfather were ruined by it, and he is destined to follow them down the same path of destruction. He believes that the only way for this to end is for Spider-Girl to die. Normie ties up his psychiatrist and tells vows to end the Spider/Goblin war once and for all.
Normie strikes at a time when May has lost her powers. Bounding her to a chair Normie tells May they she must die in order for the war to end. May talks to Normie, telling him that the Spider/Goblin wars were the battles of their fathers - not them. May tells Normie that she could have let him be hit by the car, but she saved him. She saved him because it is not in her nature to kill, nor is it in Normie's. Their future is not pre-ordained. Their lives are what they make of it. Normie cuts May free, and a great friendship begins between the two.
Normie aids May in her super hero life. Acting as both a mentor and a friend, Normie helps May when in need. In turn, May at one time developed a crush on Normie, and even kissed him. However Normie did not feel the same, he saw May as more of a little sister.
Normie ends up becoming engaged to Brenda Drago. At the engagement party Fury steals Normie and turns him into Venom. Spider-Girl saves Normie, who in turn decides to keep the Venom symbiote. Befriending the alien life form, the symbiote clears Normie of all his tattoos, as the two set out to do the right thing.
Normie summons Peter to an old Oscorp warehouse, and reveals a girl in a tank, discovered during his travels abroad, and says that SHE may be the real May Parker. In the next issue, Normie shows Peter his grandfather's journal, which states that he kidnapped May and arranged to have a clone of her returned to the Parkers. With the veracity of the journal in question, Normie and Peter attempt to discover the truth without informing May of their discovery and its possible implications. Normie visits Élan DeJunae and questions her without success; although her body language at the mention of "Project: Changeling" implies that she knows something, she is unwilling to talk. Later on at the warehouse, Peter, with Normie present, draws some fluid from the tank in order to run some tests on it. Peter realizes too late that the fluid has become unstable from exposure to air--it explodes in his face to Normie's distress. Fury the Goblin Queen activates a signal that awakens the May Parker inhabiting the tank within Osborn's labs, and she escapes, confronting real May Parker on the roof of her high school just as she is changing into Spider-Girl. She later receives a call from Normie, telling her about the capture of Peter Parker, leading the Changeling into assuming the role of Spider-Girl.
Meanwhile, Normie Osborne, along with Kaine, Phil Urich (in his Green Goblin Costume), Darkdevil, and Normie's wife Raptor, tried to rescue Peter Parker from Fury's hands, unaware of the the fact that Peter has absorbed the mind and memories of the original Norman Osborn. This leads to a fight between the assembled heroes and Peter, now possessed by the Green Goblin. Mayday arrives just as Peter/Green Goblin reunites with The Changeling, who is revealed to have been genetically spliced with the DNA of the Venom symbiote, giving her the metamorphic powers displayed by Spidercide, but without the need for a host like normal symbiotes.
In an effort to keep May Parker out of the war, Normie helped Peter Parker create the costume identity of Wild Card for Peter and take May out of the gang war. It failed when May returned as Spider-Girl and defeated her father. Since the end of the gang war, Normie has turned his attentions back towards being a good husband to Brenda and helping the New Warriors with their various weapons and equipment.
