Awesome Toy Picks: Green Goblin

Posted by G-Man (38924 posts) - - Show Bio

Each week we get our hands on some of the coolest collectibles and action figures we can find. This week we're taking a look at the recently released Green Goblin from Marvel Select.

Green Goblin is Spider-Man's most formidable villain. Unfortunately he's changed over the years. His death was pretty epic and when he came back years later, there was still some potential. As Green Goblin or Norman Osborn, Spider-Man never knew what to expect. Since he's pretty much given up his Green Goblin persona and has been a villain as plain old Norman Osborn, some of his evil charm has gone away. When Diamond Select/Marvel Select announced this new Green Goblin figure, I knew I had to get my hands on him.

As with all their figures, they somehow manage to cram in so much into the packaging. There's a good amount of detail and you get a little brief bit of history if you need to brush up your Green Goblin history.

The figure has a lot of articulation. The glider has a lot of detail and the figure looks great on display. He also comes with an extra right hand. You have your choice of a menacing fist or a second hand holding a pumpkin bomb. And of course he has his man-purse that would carry his other goblin gadgets.

This isn't the first time Marvel Select released a Green Goblin action figure. The previous version was released in 2003 and inspired from the cover to AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #39. It came with the glider, a tied up Peter Parker, the satchel and a removable pumpkin bomb.

That's it for this week. Hope you enjoyed these selections. Be sure to look for our next installment.

Pretty awesome Goblin figure. Dig the older version too. Kinda want to pick the new one up next time I'm at my local shop now...

A nice sculpt, but the pumpkin fused to the hand is classic Green Goblin action figure. Let me detach that shit.

Great figure. Even if the chainmail-suit always feels a bit off to me...

"HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAH! I`ll wreak havoc!"

"As soon as I...lift off..."

"What`s wrong with this thing?! Lift off! Lift off already, you stupid piece of junk!

Aw what`s the use..."

But, good ol` Gobby has a playful side too...

"Kiss me, Miss pumpkin bomb! Well, of course, Mr. Pumpkin bomb!"

Romance. That sweet, sweet romance...

Probably `cause hes an amalgamation of Joker and Lex Luthor...

= )

I like the one from 2003 with the tied up Peter Parker. That other one looks like it would give me nightmares as a child.

I sick of Osborne running around looking like Tommy Lee Jones, I just wish Gobby would come back :(

Seeing the new Green Goblin figure makes me remember how much I hate Willem Dafoe's Goblin armor from the first Spider-Man.

He was created as It's own thing, but yeah, currently he is like Lex Luthor with crazy Joker issues, bur he doesn't use lipstick...

Any more pictures?

The old one is better sculpted, but the new one has a far superior glider base.
I have the old one, and the new one just shipped out. Should be getting it this week.

Almost bought this when I grabbed my comics last week.

I actually own both of these figures and they are actually pretty good. The one sans Peter is the better quality made one, but the other includes tied up Peter Parker so...yeah.

The Marvel Select version looks like a Skrull. Why has diferents tones of green?

#28 Posted by scourgeoftherealworld (14 posts) - - Show Bio

@longbowhunter: dude with one of the most goblin like faces around and they hide it behind a crappy voice changer toy

#29 Posted by longbowhunter (8480 posts) - - Show Bio

@scourgeoftherealworld: Haha! Oh how true. Dafoe's actual face is way scarier than any goblin mask they could have come up with and we get stuck with a rejected Power Ranger outfit.

I like the detail in the first one especially the smoke and fire for the glider, but what is up with that Joker smile? The second one's face looks a lot better.

#31 Posted by Prizm (52 posts) - - Show Bio

A smile the Joker would be proud of.

He does look pretty evil!
