Nightwing (The New 52) Volume 2: Night of the Owls

Volume Two of Nightwing picks up a couple hours after the ending of Volume 1, with references and effects continuing on from Vol. 1.

Volume 2 of Nightwing starts off with a brand new villain/s introduced from Batman (The New 52) (which the very last pages of Nightwing Vol. 1 and Batman Vol. 1 intertwine exactly). Nightwing receives a message from the bat-cave to which he drops his nightly patrol and quickly responses to, starting the book on the right foot with interesting and intense fight sequence with refreshing occurrences that make you feel for the character and his struggles. Volume 2 of Nightwing continues to explore further into Nightwing (more so than Dick Grayson), as his reputation is somewhat tarnished and calls for his detective skills more than his fighting. A new character (from my knowledge is new) is introduced, that slowly compliments Nightwing as Jim Gordon does Batman. With this new character I found myself becoming more invested in this character's story as it tied into an event that happened within Vol. 1 of Nightwing in a way that I had not expected. Nightwing Vol. 2 (after the first couple chapters) appealed to my fictional noir interests. With not as much violence but more thought processes, making me try to connect dots but still mystified while I continued to read. Only until the the story (written by Kyle Higgins) moved the dots closer that I really tried to draw lines between clues, laid throughout, and finding the true villian. Up until the end I was completely wrong about my suspensions, due to a Watch Men-esk (the uncut movie) story delivery I was unable to predict the ending, which I found exciting and refreshing due to (I'm mainly referencing from True Detective's Marty Hart) the detective's curse, looking at all the wrong clues. I thought the conclusion to Vol 2 of Nightwing was satisfying and enjoyable.

    My score:

    Story: 4/5

    Art: 4/5

This former sidekick isn't managing too well on his own at this point. 0

Nightwing is investigating a murder case with his name on it. However, before he can actually start on it, he receives a distress call from Alfred at the Batcave. Alfred has alerted all allies of the Bat to combat the underworld organization called the Court of Owls, whom have declared war on Gotham City. -summaryNightwing is definitely among the more disappointing books the New 52 has to offer. While writer Kyle Higgins managed to further develop the character, by DC allowing him to acknowledge...
