    The Book Of Secrets

    The Story:

Batgirl is trying to apprehend a criminal named Spinebender that brings her to Miami where Nightwing is currently at. The two have a brief team up to take him down.

    My Thoughts:

Nightwing is another series that I continue to look forward to each month. I've so far enjoyed what writer Kyle Higgins has began to do. The basis of this first story arc is intriguing in the sense that it involves Haly's Circus and the added mystery about some secret concerning the circus.

I'm glad Kyle Higgins took time out to mend the relationship between Dick and Barbara to a certain extent. The somewhat questionable sequence of events between the two Gail Simone wrote in Batgirl was found odd by a lot of readers, myself included. I enjoyed the two in this issue far more than I did in Batgirl last month. Not only does Babs resolve things with Dick, she also sparkled a little jealousy in Raya, Dick's current "lady friend" he's been seeing. I get the feeling this is something that we'll see more of soon. I don't think Raya is about to forget this anytime soon.

The majority of this issue doesn't progress the main storyline so many people are curious about. It's sort of an interlude that focuses on Dick's love life. Dick and Babs track down this criminal named Spinebender who's a shape-shifter. I enjoyed Higgin's writing especially the dialogue between Dick and Babs. It's not until the end of the issue that the story gets back on track and Dick investigates the circus leading him to the heart of it where he uncovers a book of names. Among the names he finds his own printed on the pages. At this point I have no idea what this could be about or what direction the story will take. I just know I don't want to miss out on this.

The normal series artist, Eddy Barrows was replaced this issue by Trevor McCarthy. Barrows will resume art duties again next issue. McCarthy's style reminded me of Cully Hammer's. It was still fun and enjoyable artwork but I do prefer Barrows over McCarthy.

Nightwing is a series that's definitely worth following monthly. Things have only been getting better each issue. The mystery surrounding Haly's Circus should be revealed soon which I'm definitely looking forward to. It could be a life-defining moment for Nightwing's character that you don't want to miss out on.

This issue is a little non-sequitur for the series as whole although it does keep some of the story lines going.  Mostly it serves as a counter visit from Barbara after Dick showed up in her series previously.  The story doesn't have a a very Gotham like feel to it as they are chasing a shapeshifter (albeit they are in Miami) and although I have never been a big fan of the Dick/Barbara romance, it all comes together here pretty well.  Part of it is that there is a decent amount of detecting in h...

      Nightwing's Type 0

Kyle Higgins has been showing us why Dick Grayson should be Nightwing. He introduced a supporting cast and now we get to see an appearance of Batgirl; and if it's anything like Batgirl #3, things are going to be rough.   THE GOOD: I'm okay with the art. I really like seeing Dick Grayson seeing someone. It makes him seem more human. I also really like how Barbra is presented in this issue. I also really love how this really knows that Batgirl #3, these characters were at odds. I really like them ...
