Nightwind is a Legion Academy student who is in hopes of trying out for membership at some after graduation. Nightwind inherited her ability to control the winds as all women in her family. Edit
PRE-REBOOT ORIGINBerta Skye Haris is the beneficiary of a recessive gene in her family that gives its females the innate power to create and control wind currents to various degrees. As soon as she was old enough, she tried out for the Legion as Nightwind, only to be rejected. Upon the suggestion of Wildfire, whom she greatly admired, she enrolled in the Legion Academy, along with her fellow rejectees, the amphibian Lamprey and the crystal spinning Crystal Kid.
As Nightwind she became a senior student and a veteran of Legion tryouts, while an excellent student with a quite and reserved demeanor. She became close friends with the amphibian student Lamprey, who also joined the Academy at the same time. Nightwind, after being a long time Legion Academy student, eventually becomes a Legionnaire during the Five Year Gap. However in the original Legion continuity she really didn't make any appearances that would suggest itself for this feature.
After the Dominators hostile takeover of Earth and the dismantling of the Legion, Nightwind disappeared deep within the galaxy away from dominator control. During the storyline 'For No Better Reason', the Legionnaire Chuck Taine who is on Legion World, sends in the only reinforcements he can, the reorganized remnants of the Legion Academy. This includes a hardened Nightwind who is now a bald-headed militia instructor, a Lieutenant in charge of her own platoon. And not only does she finally get a chance to show how useful she is but also what a truly capable Legionnaire she had always been. However Nightwind, along with many former allies from the academy, get massacred during the invasion of Xolnar by dominator forces.
