Olivia is one of the many archeological scholars of the island Ohara in the West Blue. She had a daughter named Robin, but her husband passed away. While her beloved daughter was still very small, she left along with several of her colleges to continue the research she and her husband had been conducting in trying to solve the mystery of the 100 Year Void in the world's history by deciphering the Poneglyphs, a practice that was considered a terrible taboo by the World Government. She left her daughter in the care of her relatives.

Olivia sailed by herself on her way home, and she made it to the library tree. She warned the other scholars, and they tried to get her to see her daughter. Olivia felt she no longer deserved to be Robin's mother for the way she left her. Olivia was soon captured by Spandine, as well as the other scholars. When Olivia heard Professor Clover call out to Robin, she couldn't help but look to her daughter who no longer recognized her. However, Robin called out to her and ask if she was her mother. To avoid implicating her in front of the CP-9 officers, Olivia had to deny her own child, but Robin refused to believe it. She cried out how she had been waiting for her, she studied to become an archeologist like her, then she shocked everyone when she declared she taught herself to read the poneglyphs. After hearing this, Spandine left Olivia behind as he gave the signal for the Buster Call and ran away. Robin and Olivia finally had their tearful reunion, but the island was about to be destroyed by the Marine ships.

Olivia stayed behind to try and save the accumulated knowledge of the island during the bombardment, and she handed Robin over to Saul to get her to safety.
