A SHIELD movie, huh? Sam Jackson’s put it out there. In an interview with Radio Bigboy (by way of Digital Spy) he said that there will probably be a big movie about the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division coming together some time after THE AVENGERS movie shoots next year. I kind of figured that the Avengers movie basically would be a SHIELD movie.
The funny thing is, we kind of already saw a live-action SHIELD movie last year with GI:JOE - - THE RISE OF COBRA because GI: JOE actually started off as proposal for a new SHIELD series in the late 70s that was to star Nick Fury’s son. At the time, Marvel had a relationship with Hasbro, so when the toy company came calling for a comic series to give a story to their new action figure line, Marvel’s team re-worked the unused SHIELD pitch. There definitely are a number of strong enduring parallels… Fury Jr. probably became Duke, General Hawk could easily be Fury himself, Destro has a lot in common with Baron von Strucker, the Baroness bears some resemblance to Madame Viper and Cobra & Hydra having pretty similar M.O.’s.
Anyway, whenever we’ve got a prospective comic movie on the docket, it’s always fun to start a fantasy casting call. Putting the David Hasslehoff 90s movie aside for a moment (just a moment), let’s start throwing out some names of actors who could play Dum Dum Dugan, G.W. Bridge and the aforementioned Viper and Baron von Strucker, because it's pretty obvious that any movie would be about a war with Hydra. Also, is it just me or were you getting some serious mandroid-vibes off of Whiplash’s drones in IM2? I could see them being folded into this. But would you maniacs in the Comic Vine community want to see this? An entire movie about agent Phil Coulson and his co-workers without any other superhero involved?
