Anyone else miss 616 nick fury?

As an older comic book fan it's hard seeing the 1610 and movie version all the time in marvel products and stories set in the 616 universe.

I'm not heartbroken since I never had a big connection with Fury.

Nope

I like Ultimate Nick Fury more than I've ever cared for his 616 version.

Not really, but I guess it's just that nostalgic feel.

Well if it makes you feel better original Nick Fury is the father of New Nick Fury. But I guess we will never see original Nick Fury again.

I really never understood the appeal of Ultimate Nick Fury. He's never done anything impressive. 616 Nick Fury was great in secret invasion, and I'm glad he's finally starting to be more recurring being in every story arch of Captain America and Winter Soldier.

Yeah, has no one been reading Winter Soldier? He's a big part of that series. If you miss Nick/Bucky or just liked the Bourne movies, I would definitely recommend it.

@save_me_now: Sorry to disturb you but what issue was original fury in?

#21 Edited by Hit_Monkey (881 posts) - - Show Bio

I miss the original. The Sam Jackson one kinda grates on me a bit. His cool seems a bit forced.

I have a feeling AoU might be the last we see of Original Nick Fury for a long time. At least until Marvel's fascination with New Nick Fury dies down. But I like 616 Fury in 616. Even though they're technically different people, Ultimate Fury should stay in Ultimate.

@cattlebattle: Racist? for calling the black guy black and the white guy white? Your an idiot.

I do

#25 Posted by TheAcidSkull (17778 posts) - - Show Bio

Eh? i can't say that i am, but i Still hate it when MOVIES shove their way into comics.

#26 Edited by joshmightbe (24876 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm not sure how I feel about the New Fury yet and I did like Old Nick but honestly I'm really just not that interested in Marvel currently.

#27 Posted by HumanRocket (7622 posts) - - Show Bio

Yes I do. The old fury was so badass and just the way he goes about his ways not letting people dictate how to run things.

Its "you're" not "your"

"People in glass houses......"

@cattlebattle: Oh yes thats what comic vine's about mate, grammar. Not that its any of your business but I'm dyslexic. It affects my writing in various ways. It does not make me an idiot. Despite what you were trying to suggest with that snide glass houses comment.
More to the point, you are an idiot for calling a guy out as racist for describing a black guy as black & a white guy as white. He even censored/doctored the original 'offending' comment because of your P.C. thuggery. It's one of the most distinguishing features that set the characters apart. Considering there is now a second 616 Fury who is black (GASP! I know! I said it).
Of course people are going use it when discussing them to differentiate to between the two and now three. Bigotry or racism don't even come into it.

I don't. I say "Original Nick Fury", "Ultimate Nick Fury", and "Nick Fury Junior". No need to bring race into it when there's already obvious names for them.

White Green Lantern, Hispanic Green Lantern, Black Green Lantern, Ginger Green Lantern, see it works.

Meh

#34 Posted by Joygirl (19286 posts) - - Show Bio

Oh, also Arabic Green Lantern. More proof that legacy characters are BEST described by their race. /sarcasm

#35 Posted by Dernman (14889 posts) - - Show Bio

Yes I miss him.

#36 Posted by KEROGA (983 posts) - - Show Bio

Original fury was badass

#37 Edited by Black_Claw (2957 posts) - - Show Bio

@theacidskull: To be fair, Ultimate Nick Fury looked like Sam Jackson years before the films came out. And the only reason Sam Jackson allowed Marvel to make Nick fury look like him is so he would have an excuse to play Nick Fury if there were films that had the character in them.

#38 Posted by The Stegman (23765 posts) - - Show Bio

Not one bit.

#39 Posted by PeppeyHare (4310 posts) - - Show Bio

Yep I miss him. Original Nick Fury is a boss

#40 Posted by Yung ANcient One (4720 posts) - - Show Bio

1610 Fury is in the 1610 Universe.

II. What happened to Nick Fury Sr.? I only see Nick Fury JR. now.

Right here. But as long as they keep making the Avengers film with Sam Jackson as Fury it will be a long time til we see classic Fury back anytime soon.

#44 Edited by youmessinwithme (1184 posts) - - Show Bio

Yes!

I grew up on old grizzled WWII vet nick fury (pretty much ultimate nick fury's and current 616's dad) and he's actually a bad@$$ and that's who I wanna see. now they've even fazed him out of the 616 universe and brought in his black son.

new Nick fury isn't even nick fury he's marcus johnson....

#45 Edited by OmegaHans (205 posts) - - Show Bio

I want the original Nick Fury to come out of retirement and back into the forefront of SHIELD, I've tried to give Nick, Jr. a chance but he's boring. Hill is a stuck up shrew, Daisy is a moron, and Nick Fury was the only man who could run SHIELD the best and most appropriate way. Old school Nick is the man.

It just feels wrong with him out of the picture. I'm realizing that more and more now as the years pass in these books.

#46 Edited by roboadmiral (544 posts) - - Show Bio

This is my Nick Fury. Will he ever show up in the main Marvel universe or in the movies? No. It's their loss though since he's the most amazing version of the character that is, was, or ever shall be, and I'm more than happy with the thirteen issues of him that I got.

#47 Posted by TekTheNinja (766 posts) - - Show Bio

@roboadmiral: Why does marvel feel the need to change the comics to be more like the movies? It's a huge middle finger to old school comic fans.

Hahaha! It feels nice to be wrong but at the same time, there are rumors that Fury Sr is going to die soon because of this event sooo…. :(
