What a great team. Mike Allred on art, with Nick Spencer helping write? Im sold.
Nick Fury Jr.
Character » Nick Fury Jr. appears in 420 issues.
Once known as Marcus Johnson, Nick Fury Jr. is the second son of the legendary Nick Fury. With a military history and a knack for espionage, he has gone on to follow his father's footsteps as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., an Avenger, and a one-man anti-terrorist unit.
Marvel Unveils First MARVEL: NOW! - Point One Teaser
Whatever happened to the real Nick Fury? This just seems an attempt to throw Ultimate Nick Fury into the main continuity
I think I would've like Nick Fury Jr. if they didn't go out of their way to make him related to Nick Fury and if they just left his name as Marcus Johnson...hell, I would've even been okay with the eye patch. But the fact they are trying so hard to make him the new Fury leaves a sour taste.
what burns me most about NICK FURY JR ( and last time I will be referring to him by that name..)
It reminds of a old saying around my house
"don't piss on my back and say it is raining"
I get it, you want to maximize the exposure of The Avengers, and to the casual fan, the very idea of a White Nick Fury just is too damn confusing. But the execution is just bush-league and lazy. They should have made The Ultimate Fury come over to the 616 universe in the 'SPIDER-MEN' book
But all that being said, I am for change and progression, in this regards I always looked at DC with the aging of the sidekicks, while characters like Kitty Pyrde, Nova, Human Torch and even Spider-man just never seemed to grow older.
However making changes for the sake of change or worse just making poor choices when you change does nothing but hurt a enjoyable product.
I am a comic book fan for life, and I will want to see how this goes, but this isn't something I am excited for sadly
Seems cool to me. I could care less about old man Nick Fury. He's boring. If it brings more readers into the comic fold, bring it! More fans, more creations, more art, more cool stuff. It's a great time to be a comic book fan.
So people are too busy complaining about that Black Fury to care about the fact that continuity is so bad at Marvel they've managed to get Cable's T.O. eye wrong....on both the Marvel NOW teasers...... no wonder they get away with this crap......maybe they just introduced Black Fury to distract you all from the fact Brevoort and co don't even do their jobs
I'm cool with Jr. as long as they don't get rid of Sr. The Father/Son dynamic with a white father and black son could be interesting. It brings depth to both instantly. Imagine another black guy growing up without a father only to find out his estranged father is the world's foremost espionage agent.
Definitely Cable -
Definitely NOT Cards - those are Files! (tab gives it away)
What I do find odd is Nicky Jr. is wearing Steve Roger's S.H.I.E.L.D. (Super Soldier) uniform.
I kinda feel that since they have gone this far to make 616 the Cinematic Universe, I mean c'mon, Hawkeye's costume change, the fact that Thor will now have his Helmet off more often, (I guarantee that it happen's.) this ''Nick Fury Jr," will probably be the best stuff written. I mean he is a huge investment. Older characters like Storm, Iron Fist and other's, seem to get the shaft, while ''hipper" more prevelant character's get the better artist and writer's solely due to popularity. The only reason Cap and Wolvie, as well as Spider-man and others associated with them (X-Force, Kaine, Venom) get good writers, is because they are still hip. You think that Cap, the X-men and Spidey being written so well was an accident? Hell No! They get the best treatment for their ability to sell books and Films. I can almost bet that everyone hating the new Fury are going to be pissed because we will have a character that does everything but suck. And not because he's a good Idea or Character. But Because according to the Avengers film and Ultimate fans. He's damn sure a cool one, and that's what sales comics and movies, ''Cool." Not the fact that someone is a true blue hero. Not that some one became a hero, not simply for vengeance, but a strong belief that the world needs to be saved, and that humanity can be better. But you know, them's the apples.
I was hoping that Marvel Now meant an end to these stupid point one issues. They serve the same purpose as annuals, except they are way more frequent and therefore less thought out. And there numbering makes no sense.
As far as whether that is Nick Fury or Cable in all this Marvel Now art, that is a great question. Either way this new version of whichever character it is looks way too much like the other. Cable should never have an eye patch, and if it's Nick Fury, giving him white hair is cool, but once you give him a robot suit as well, then you just have a poor man's cable. I keeping my hopes up, but Marvel's track record these past couple years, with AVX, Fear Itself, and Battle Scars has me very nervous. I love Marvel, but DC ha actual fresh ideas going on, while Marvel seems more content with making 20 page issues of poster art.
It's Cable... but then again... wasn't he cured in X-Sanction? hmmm... so whats with the robo arm and eye patch? And yes, the patch seems to be on his "good eye". But his "good eye" is also the one that has the star shaped scars...
Still... Nick Fury Jr is RIDICULOUS. I'd rather they have Ultimates Nick Fury come over from the other Universe for some reason or another then try to FORCE a movie Fury into the main universe... The way they did it was so... cheap.
Really not sure what to make of this whole Ultimate Nick Fury in Marvel 616 reality with upcoming NOW. As for teh identiy on the visible card, my money is on Cable. I'm pretty much just writing this off as Marvel's New 52 and that's all I'm gonna say about it.

@NyxEquitis: Beautiful, man. That was just too beautiful. Brought a tear to my eye.
Ha, glad it had the desired effect.
Replacing an established hero with a younger "version" of them. I better check my calendar, because I don't think it was the mid-90s again.
I will wait and see what NOW has to offer, but I agree with all the others that would like a breather from AvX and other events before we dive head first into the "next big thing". I appreciate change, but I feel like the overall 616 has been in a slow (sometimes not so slow) downward decline. Hope NOW helps, but wish there was more info about it now. October feels a ways off...
I like the Nick Fury Jr. character, especially if Marvel has no plans for Nick Fury Sr. But it's too much of a resemblance to the Ultimate Marvel universe Nick Fury. I never worry when I hear anyone dying in the 616. And as you can see Cable is among the living again. This Marvel Now! stuff should be fun to see take place. Thankfully it's not a DC inspired reboot.
Nick Fury is like Alfred the butler. He's there. He's around. He's sometimes necessary and fills a role. But man a book filled with nothing but him would be dull. I could care less about Jr. or Sr. but Junior's black post movie appearance in comics is definitely forced and hard not to feel ones intelligence at least somewhat insulted.
They should have named him Samuel.

@Grim: could you please read Battle scar instead of/before complaining about Nick Fury Jr ?
no.
glanced over it. My idea was better. Im glad i havent been keeping up with this, because as was obvious to me the moment i saw he was in the "NEW 616", it only confirms that his existence is an attempt to drag the slightly cooler Ultimate Nick into 616 sales.
...all of Marvel NOW is gonna piss me off it seems...
Marvel seem to overuse the ''Change it forever '' aspect almost every 3-4 months.....they don't seem to understand what it actually means >_> If you can't have stability even for a year and you keep getting ''Change forever''s , it will lose all the shock value and you willl feel like any event that is happening '' Ah...another EVENT that changes things forever ! '' ....Personally , now I think if they really want to Change things forever...they should go on without an event like a year or so...Now THAT would be shocking !
Everybody is wrong about Cable's eye. Cable's T-O eye is his right eye as that's where the virus entered his body then spread to the left side (hence the scarring over the right eye). The reason he left eye glows is because that's where his mutant power manifests itself just like Jean Grey's manifests from her forehead. X-Man's power manifests from his left eye as well. The reason's Cable's left eye is always glowing is because he's constantly using his power to keep the virus in check.
That doesn't explain why he has the eye-patch in the first place considering he was healed of the T-O Virus in X-Sanction. We see him laying in the Utopia med-bay completly restored, arm and all. Maybe he has a part to play in AvX yet...
