Not really a comic book company or for that matter even a publisher, NFPA stands for National Fire Protection Association, founded in 1896 It is an organization charged with creating and maintaining minimum standards and requirements for fire prevention and suppression activities, training, and equipment, as well as other life-safety codes and standards. This includes everything from building codes to the personal protective equipment utilized by firefighters while extinguishing a blaze.

One of it’s regular efforts (starting around 1950) is the printing of comic books for free distribution to school children, church groups, and the publish at large.

For many years this was done by the students at the Joe Kubert School of Art, with Kubert contributing much of the work himself.

Their main continuing character is Sparky the Fire-Dog.
