Witchblade #124 Review/Preview

The next eagerly awaited issue is almost upon us.

I meant to review this last Tuesday but it's been a busy week.  When I started reading this issue, I started getting a little concerned.  Sara and Dani have become like sisters with everything they've gone through together.  For whatever reason fate has decided to have them share the Witchblade, they have a bond that can't be broken.  Yet both seem to be acting out of character.

Last issue, we saw Dani pay a visit to her student, Finch's boyfriend.  Things got a little violent.  It didn't really seem like Dani to use the Witchblade against a...civilian.  Then again, Dani hasn't always made the wisest decision, I mean she easily trusted David Worthy.  At this point in the game, she shouldn't be making rookie mistakes.

Sara, also acted a bit out of character in her reaction to Dani's 'problem' and the way she handles it.  But after reading through the issue, it does all go back to that bond that they share.

This is one of those issues that even though it's not chock full of action, I really enjoyed it.  Ron Marz continues to show that actually writing for the characters can have a bigger impact than having an issue with all out action.  These characters are flawed in a human way and that's what makes reading Witchblade all the better.

Stjepan Sejic blows me away, as usual.  I love the rain effects with the glow of the Witchblade or the shine from the lightning.  He even adds little details such as the way their hair would look in the rain.  His art is such a treat for the eyes.

And the last page?  It's kind of a doosey.  The door has been opened for some really bad stuff to come.  It's going to be great.

I'm going to give this a 4.5 out of 5.  I felt a little let down during this "Crown Heights" storyline, but this issue makes up for it all.

Here's the Preview:

Witchblade wielders Sara Pezzini and Dani Baptiste find themselves at odds over the fate of a girl Dani has taken on as a dance student. Could this be the end of their friendship and perhaps the start of something far more deadly? This issue sets the stage for a storyline that will change Sara, Dani and the Witchblade forever!

Second Page after the cover... It really couldn't have been that serious.

I hope not, i'm not particularly liking Finch yet... Then again if i had to choose between her and sara i'd choose Finch. Although the witchblade will probably stay with Sara after that whole baby thing..

I'll take Finch over Sara any day. Hope has Jackie and Dani, so i don't think she exactly needs Sara around. Though, the witchblade is kind of the reason why Sara is still alive.

Well Jackie is not exactly a good role model for a young child. Detective Gleason will probably take care of her is something happens to Sara.

Oh he probably would... he'll do anything for Sara.. even though she's already cheated on him.

That's kinda how I felt, which is what I was getting at that it seemed out of character.  But with what happens, and what has happened before, it makes sense.  Could also maybe be a little 'heat of the moment' thing.  Maybe, maybe not.

Dig Deeper into Witchblade

The Witchblade is the offspring of the primal forces of the universe, The Darkness & the Angelus. It is male and generally chooses a female host. It is semi-organic and reacts supernaturally to threats. It is able to grant its host a variety of weapons and can heal the wearer.
