Vertigo Announces Strange Adventures #1

Some of the greatest writers of our time get together in May.

Vertigo has just announced the release of Strange Adventures #1 for May. The comic will gather some of the greatest comic book writers of our time, including Peter Milligan, Scott Snyder and Jeff Lemire. That right there should be enough to grab your attention.

What will the comic be about? From the far reaches of space to the not so distant future, Vertigo will bring you a collection of 8 ten page science fiction short stories as only Vertigo can do them.

To make this even sweeter, the Eisner award-winning team of 100 Bullets, Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso reunite to bring you the first chapter of their upcoming new series SPACEMAN.

Check out the cover by Paul Pope. There will also be a variant cover by Mark Buckingham. Be sure to let your local comic shop know that they must order a copy of this series for you.

Isn't that Ultra the Multi-Alien?

I am definitely going to have to get this, but I hope it's not as disappointing as Weird Worlds #1 was.

If it's not him, it's his twin brother :-)

find this to be great news, always love the old sci-fi of the golden and silver age. Would be nice to see a revival of that genre in comics.

Vertigo already did a Strange Adventures miniseries (four issues) back in 1999 with contributors like Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons and Brian Azzarello. Of course, I'm excited for this one because it involves Milligan (who's one of the best writers in the industry) and Snyder and Lemire who I'd love to see more of besides their current babies at Vertigo so I can have a more full-rounded opinion on their writing.

Also, Paul Pope FTW!

Although, this confuses me because last year Vertigo announced it was no longer doing DC-related stuff...this has DC written all over it....since it was one of their longest titles (but then again so was House of Mystery which is still ongoing at Vertigo...confusing stuff)

Ultra has always been one of my favorite C-list characters so it's good to see this

Either that's the variant or you mixed up the names in the last paragraph=] Paul Pope's stuff is a little bit unmistakable

yeah...the cover makes me think of Buckingham, looks like his Snow White's face there

although...Paul Pope's variant cover for American Vampire didn't seem as "unmistakable" as his interior art always has been IMO

For a second there I thought that was Metamorpho. I was like "They can use DC characters again?!" but sadly tis not the case.

I understand but if you had to go off your own judgment, you'd assume that cover is Buckingham, right? doesn't it look similar to his Fables work?
aztek_the_lost moderator on Feb. 14, 2011 at 9:36 a.m.
@G-Man: actually scratch that, I know it's Buckingham, I can see his signature...I was looking for it in the bottom right but it's on the left
