Thor in IRON MAN 2?

Is that him in that cell, right there?

Parlez-vous français ?

If you did speak French, you might be able to help us unravel a little conundrum. See, a behind-the-scenes featurette has popped up on ironman.fr - - the French IRON MAN 2 site. The clip is news in itself, as it shows more footage of Tony Stark’s drag-racing visit to Monaco with commentary from Robert " Iron Man" Downey Jr., Jon " Happy Hogan" Favreau, Mickey " Whiplash" Rourke and Scarlett " Black Widow" Johannson about the making of the movie. Fairly standard EPK stuff. That’s not what’s raising some eyebrows.

What’s raising some eyebrows is a background character who could possibly be Chris “ Thor” Hemsworth making a cameo (and thanks to Cinemablend for the heads up).   See for yourself…

If the clip doesn’t play for you, ol’ Witchfinder Pinchuk has got a screenshot for you to inspect...

Now, G-Man is dubious about this. He doesn't believes it's another example of Marvel movies’ actor-sharing interconnectedness ( Nick Fury letting himself into Tony Stark’s condo in IRON MAN, Tony Stark grabbing a beer with Thunderbolt Ross in INCREDIBLE HULK, and so on), but I think there’s a possibility. Beyond the superficial visual similarities - - which can be easily distorted since the character’s out of focus - - the fact that the camera lingers on an ostensibly-peripheral character for a beat after the main character has left and then starts racking him into focus before an awkwardly-abrupt cut my draws attention.  Putting on my Sherlock Holmes-style deer slayer cap for a moment, I would suspect that Marvel might not want to reveal this cameo for the time being, so they’ve edited it down to keep the actual reveal for the actual release.

And perhaps, if I spoke French, the conversation between Tony and the Monaco official might actually be going like this...

“We have Thor in the cell next to you. Don’t look at him, whatever you do.”

“Alright, I won’t look at him.”

What do you think, Comic Vine gumshoes? Could that be Thor? Or have we all lost our minds? Have we stared long enough into the abyss that the abyss is now staring back at us?

What does the conversation actually say? Does anyone know?

I think it's great that another Marvel Superhero will appear in another Marvel Superhero Character's movie instead of Stan "The Man" Lee all the time.

I wish Mandarin was in this movie.

the only thing i understood is that they gave him one minute, and that there was a guy in there or something. Maybe even heard Therapie out of it.
JR_84on Feb. 26, 2010 at 8:31 a.m.

This is pretty much what  was said during the three seconds where the actors were speaking french:

The non-Tony Stark guy : " We don't know who this guy is, we don't have any finger print matches or anything.
Stark : "Where is he? "
The non-Tony guy :"Over there! We don't know if he speaks english, french... hell we don't even know even if he can speak at all!!"
Stark : "can I talk to him?"
The non-Tony guy : "five minutes that's all."

So as you can tell... you guys didn't miss much by not understanding French!

Ils parlent seulement de Whiplash. Si c'est bien Thor dans la cellule, il faudrait mieux qu'une image flou ;)
buttersdaman000on Feb. 26, 2010 at 8:34 a.m.
they were speaking too fast for me to translate in my head
Emerald Dragonflyon Feb. 26, 2010 at 8:34 a.m.
That's not Thor for sure.

They talk about Wiplash (sorry guys !).
  • "Mister Stark, we have checked his  finger prints (I don't know the right term) and we founded nothing, neither his name. "
  • "Where do we go ?"
  • "Here... We don't know if he speaks english, we don't know if he talk: he didn't say a word since he's here."
  • "%"&µ$£"outre" (What do you say Robert ??? If it is french, it's incomprehensible)
  • "Five minutes. We are watching you."
  • And ther wasn't any fren actor in this scene.

Fresh0133on Feb. 26, 2010 at 8:50 a.m.
If that's Thor it looks more like an Eric Masterson appearance rather than the God of Thunder, although I thought I remembered someone connected to the movie saying that there wasn't going to be an Eric Masterson, but if you've got Jane Foster in the movie, how do you not have Masterson?  Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see Hemsworth, or a blurry blonde haired figure in the back ground like that image right there pop up in IM2 to give all of the little fanboys and girls an early christmas present and get people speculating again, guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Moomin123on Feb. 26, 2010 at 8:51 a.m.

I think it's Thor, I heard that Thor would be in Iron Man 2 way before this article came out.
But surely Thor would be given some dialogue if he is making a cameo regarding the Avengers film.
Tyler Starkeon Feb. 26, 2010 at 8:55 a.m.
it's a blurry dude with long hair whats to speculate lol
Kiwi-kidon Feb. 26, 2010 at 9 a.m.
Long blond hair guy in Monaco ? Jean Sarkozy !

Tyler Starkeon Feb. 26, 2010 at 9:08 a.m.
The guy appears to be slightly flabby, I don't think Chris Hemsworth has an ounce of body fat
