I think I may have made it clear that I simply adored The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz along with Skottie Young's amazing art.  Now it is time to return to the land of Oz and take part in the adventures of Tip and Jack Pumpkinhead.  Will this series be as good as the first?  This is on sale Wednesday, November 4, 2009.

What more can I say about this book.  If you've read the first 8 issue mini-series, you're going to love this series as well.  If (for some crazy reason) you were on the fence, or if you're simply not a huge Wizard Of Oz fan, this takes place after that.  So if you haven't read the original novels, this will be a new adventure for you.

I could sit here and go on praising Eric Shanower and Skottie Young but I think you get the idea.  While I enjoy the superhero comics or the dark & twisted tales, this is just an enjoyable comic.  There's a reason that I begged Marvel to let me take an early look at this book over everything else they're putting out this week.  Pick this book up and give it a shot.  I really think you'll be hooked.

So good to hear that it turned out well.  Have you read the original Marvelous Land of Oz at all, G-Man?  Just wondering if you know what the bit twist about Tip is at all.  = D  If not, it's a doozy!!!  I'm also really looking forward to seeing how horrible of a person they portray Mombi as, but I might be getting ahead of myself on that.  If you didn't know, Mombi has her hands in a LOT of stuff in the Oz universe.  She is definitely NOT a nice person in the least bit.  lol

I'm gonna have to wait until next week to pick this up sadly.  =  (  I really wish they would just release the whole thing in one big HC rather than monthly issues.  The suspense kills me.

Nice review, sir.

@jakob187: I haven not read the original novel so most of this is new. But I did come across that big 'twist' when making a page for Tip.  There was some debate over the page but we'll leave things as they are for now.  It definitely will be a doozy when it comes out.

Nice!  This really is hard for me, because I want the collected edition, but don't want to wait for it!  Having only the hardcover for Wizard of Oz I got to enjoy the story without any nasty adverts, staples or creases in the spine to ruin my enjoyment (although I also have no idea where issues were meant to start & finish so I can't add the Queen of Field Mice to any issues).

G-Man, we need to give you flashcards so you don't have to pronounce those tricky names!  ;)

@xerox-kitty: I'll admit, I'm a sucker.  Even though I got a copy from Marvel, I also bought one for my daughter and one for Vinny (over at Giant Bomb).  It's safe to say that I'll be picking up the hardcover.  As far as flashcards, maybe a teleprompter would come in handy.  But I hate taking notes or referring to anything.  Then again, that probably explains my senseless rants or raves during some videos.

LOL  Yeah, the twist is pretty interesting, especially for a children's novel.  Nonetheless, do some research on Mombi, as it'll probably give you some new eyes to see her through.  Definitely a nasty character.

You REALLY need to read the original books...but with your job, that would probably prove difficult.  lol

The movie Return to Oz is supposed to be Land of Oz and Ozma of Oz combined into one movie.  Unfortunately, it's too dark, the plot destroyed the books just as much as Wizard of Oz destroyed the book...and there's no Tip at all.  Just a very young Fairuza Balk as Dorothy.  It did have Mombi, but in a very different way, but the portrayals of Jack Pumpkinhead, Tik Tok, and Ballina were pretty good.

All in all, though, Shanower and Young are definitely the guys to do these updates.  I'm simply astonished at how well Shanower keeps to the Oz universe that BAUM wrote, even when he was doing other stuff that wasn't just retelling these original stories.

@jakob187: I always thought the movie was 'okay.'  After reading these comics and hearing that they are really faithful to the books, I definitely want to read them.  But yeah, I barely have time to read all the comics that come out.  Maybe I should look into audio books for my commute.

Hit up the library, mang!  Even here in Waco, we've got a massive section of graphic novels and audio books.  Best of both worlds.  Makes me wonder why I keep BUYING a ton of comics.

It'd probably be easy to find the first three books, but after that...Lord only knows.  Trying to find the Ruth Plumly Thompson stuff might be a bit difficult.

Definitely check out the Oz stuff that Shanower did BEFORE these two runs.  He has quite a few books in the Oz universe.
