'Superman: Man of Steel' Set Photos Reveal More Costume Changes

The latest images of Cavill as 'Superman' confirm that the red briefs are out, but that's not all.

Many people complained about the inability to see Henry Cavill's 'Superman' costume when Warner Brothers revealed the official image. Was he keeping the briefs, or would they toss them like they did for Supes in DC's New 52? Well, based on the most recent "spy pictures," our questions have been answered.

Earlier today images of Cavill as 'Superman were leaked online and we got a much closer look at the detail of his costume. It is certainly very different from any Superman costume that has come before it -- the most obvious change being the lack of briefs. However, the images also revealed the texture of the uniform, which we could see in the first image, looks very similar to the Spider-Man movie costume. The chain-like effect gives the costume a more serious tone, which will likely reflect the tone of the upcoming film. We also get a closer look at the outline design of the costume which is likely more for aesthetics than functionality, and confirmation that the suit will indeed be darker. Notice also that he is only wearing the cape in some of the photos, so whether it will be a staple part of his uniform remains to be seen!

Needless to say, we think he looks pretty good. What do you think? 'Superman' is currently filming starring actor Henry Cavill as 'Superman and Amy Adams as 'Lois Lane.' The film is scheduled to be released in theaters sometime in 2013.

Looks really good! Cavil bulked up massively, that's what I call a Superman physique.

I'm distracted in the third picture by his super-buldg, but it looks like his costume is close or the same as the new 52 superman's nice

Okay, so in that last image, does it look like Cavil wet himself to anyone else?

Pretty good.
However, that bulge.........
LordRequiemon Aug. 31, 2011 at 9:37 a.m.
For a film interpretation that's positively great. I'm glad he's actually beefed up, just as Chris Hemsworth did for Thor and Christian Bale did for Batman, it wouldn't work as well had they not.
Migz13on Aug. 31, 2011 at 9:42 a.m.
Looks interesting, now that they put aside that red underwear, it looks sci-fi more than ever, and that's not a bad thing considering Supes is an alien and all that. I just hope this won't go the way the of the Green Lantern if you know what I mean. I put my full-on faith on Snyder and Nolan's shoulders.
ltbrdon Aug. 31, 2011 at 9:45 a.m.

I think its a bold move for the movie to be going with a look completely different than what most people know Superman to look like. Plus you have to give props to Cavill for getting in the shape necessary to make him look intimidating in what is really a ridiculous outfit.

I don't think this is a "batman armored nipples" incident again as KainScion points out. Yeah were going to see a groin bulge. We've always seen a groin bulge. Superman wears a skin tight outfit. Go back to the Reeve films, you still see a groin bulge.....and they actually wanted Christopher to pad his groin to emphasis the bulge but he and Donner wouldn't do it. Look at artist depictions in the comics, he's got a bit of a groin bulge. Watch the Lois and Clark series, he's got a groin bulge......Martha even makes a dirty joke about it in the pilot episode. Its a part of wearing tights. The only reason the Batman and Robin film gets so much crap for it is because it was specifically shoved into the audiences face by being shot (as well as the ass and nipples). I don't see Synder being that stupid with this character or the film in general though I'm sure their will be a joke about the bulge in the way of Lois or another character making an off-hand reference to it or a stare. That I can live with.

Aside from that I'm a bit dubious about the more blue-silver pattern portions. Its a little strange and unnecessary cosmetically but if the story supports why they need to be there than I can live with them. However I think not having a belt is a bit strange (though I do like the small nod to it in the gold circular piece) but again if the story supports why I can live with it and it does make alot of sense because something non-skin tight like the belt should be noticeable under normal clothing.

I agree, it does kinda resemble that of the new 52 Supes.

And I guess they'll just edit the bulge/codpiece like they had to do with Brandon Routh because they didn't want kids seeing the movie  to see Superman flying around with that xD
RedheadedAtrocituson Aug. 31, 2011 at 9:45 a.m.
All looks fine except for two things. The hair still looks atrocious...and the bulge makes me think of Joel Schumacher codpieces for the Batsuit.  And yes it looks like they are adopting the "New 52" suit for the look, which is great even if it does make me miss the old suit.
