Regardless of what you think about Spider-Man or Broadway musicals, I think there's going to be a lot of interest in Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark .  The idea of a Spider-Man musical is simply a strange one.  I do think that this has an opportunity to do well.  Everyone knows who Spider-Man is.  People enjoy writer/director Julie Taymor's productions.  Throw in actors Alan Cumming as Green Goblin and Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Jane plus the fact that the music was written by Bono and The Edge from U2, there's going to be some interest in seeing this.  Even from non-Spidey fans.

It was originally reported that the opening would take place on Feburary 18, 2010.  That date has now been changed to preview performances starting Thursday, Febuary 25, 2010.  According to Marvel , the official opening date will be announced shortly.

Tickets are on sale exclusively for American Express cardholders at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000.  For those that already purchased tickets, they will be given access to seats of equal or lesser value at later shows and will be contacted to arrange for an exchange or refund.

Other casting news will be announced soon, including the role of Spider-Man himself.  The reason of the change of opening date has to do with all the red tape of obtaining state and building permits.

I do wish I was able to check this out.  A Spider-Man musical might be a little cheesey but I am curious.  You could almost say all musicals are cheesey in their own way.  I don't break into song everyday in my normal life but you never know.  If you live in the New York area and plan on going, I definitely want to hear about it.

Why a musical for Spider-man a Deadpool musical makes so much more sense.

It might make more sense but the 'general public' is more familiar with Spidey.  Trying to sell Deadpool as a Broadway Musical would be tough.  Everyone knows who Spidey is.  Not everyone (who doesn't read comics) knows who Deadpool is, even if he's been in Wolverine Origins.

Because the general theatre going public don' know about Deadpool yet :p

I only heard about this yesterday.  How weird, a Spidey musical!  With Nightcrawler as Spidey...?? ;)  Well, with a Queen musical, and Bleach & Air Gear musicals, I shouldn't really be surprised.

Not that I'd see this potential travesty nor do I live near either city, but I thought this was going to premiere in San "I'm Fabulouth" Francisco?  My memory must be bad.  Bono and The Edge from U2?  This just gets weirder and weirder.

If Evil Dead and the Toxic Avenger can have a musical then I guess it was just a matter of time

Has anyone ever heard about the Batman musical that was supposed to come out well it never panned out so  meatloaf did a couple of the songs on one of his albums, I'll have to remember which, but it's epic as all hell

well this is interesting well i mean i don't mind them breaking into song but unlike some movies like beauty and the beast, the little mermaid spider man doesn't have its own soundtrack for the play to use and its kinda hard to play original songs that people will like so it should just be a play and not a musical but yes i love the idea of a Broadway spectical based on comic book characters for the first time ever i just hope i can see it somewhere this century
