Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark has had its share of ups and downs lately.  There's been talk of the show not opening and being over budget.  Variety reported yesterday that things are still in motion.  They have found their Peter Parker along with their lead producer.

Michael Cohl will be taking over as lead producer.  Cohl has been in the industry since 1989, getting his start as a concert promoter.  Cohl has also worked with the band U2, whose members, Bono and the Edge, have written songs for the musical.  The role of Peter Parker will be played Reeve Carney, the lead singer of the band Carney.

As you may know, the show will be directed by Julie Taymor, who has worked with Reeve on the upcoming film version of The Tempest.  Other cast includes Alan Cumming as the Green Goblin and Evan Rachel Wood as Mary Jane.

There's no update on the premiere of the show.  That's still in question.  All that has been said with this announcement is that the show will open in 2010 at Broadway's Hilton Theater.

:O He is soooooooooo  HOT!
And perfect for the role.

Although he looks alot like James Franco who played Harry n the film .... Oh well :D and Evan Rachel Wood looks alot like Mary Jane!

Perfect Cast in my opinion, they should scrap the broadway and remake the Spiderman franchise with this cast.

@AngelFrost:  The kid does look a lot like James Franco, I agree.

I also agree that  Evan Rachel Wood is a great casting choice for Mary Jane now that I found her images online.   Wish Sam Raimi would drop Kirsten Dunst and instead use this young lady.

Evan Rachel Wood was great in Across The Universe as well.

I really like Spider-Man, but I don't know whether I'll see the musical. It's a musical!! and musicals are the one type of film I hate, as well as romances.

They've done Spider-man as a musical before. I believe it was at Disney or some theme park. I tried tracking down a video clip of the old one but got side tracked.
But none the less I would love to see this.

@Moomin123:  I tend to agree with you regarding musicals and romances.   Even as jaded as I am, there are a few and I emphasize the word FEW musicals that I actually enjoy.

On the surface, this whole idea  does sound a bit awful to me, but as AngelFrost pointed out, the cast for Parker and Mary Jane at least seem to be good choices, too bad they can't be in the movies.  Who knows, maybe after Spidey #4 the cast will be changed--one can hope.

If no one else, please get rid of Kirsten Dunst.  Not only is she just not the right type for MJ, but she's always bad mouthed the whole Spidey movie franchise.  Sheesh, if I were given the type of $ those actors made for those movies, I'd be the exact opposite.  At least be grateful for the role and the scratch.

Evan Rachel probably should've been MJ in the movies too, looking at some Google pictures of here just now... Anyway, I hope this musical works.

Isn't that basically the essence of what's NOT Peter Parker? I'm sorry, but what you just said is kind of an oxymoron if we're going by the comics.

Definitely agree about Kirsten Dunst in the Spidey movies. Yuck. I disliked her greatly "as" MJ.

this is NOT the best idea. im sorry. if it does well, then congrats. But remember how in the 90's executives shot stupid sounding ideas left and right? i think thats a direct reason why movies and tv shows where better and more fulfilling in the 90's. VIVA LA 90's!
