South African Actress Tanit Phoenix For Wonder Woman?

She definitely looks the part, but can she act?

I know a lot of you would love to see a proper film adaptation of one of DC's most iconic female characters and while it seems that the idea of a Wonder Woman film might be a long way away, there have been plenty of rumors about another television adaptation. The show, which we reported would be developed by David E. Kelley -the same guy responsible for shows like Ally McBeal and The Practice - will likely be televised within the next year. The big question is, who will play Diana/ Wonder Woman? If you are a Wonder Woman fan, then you probably have heard the rumors; everyone from Beyonce and Jennifer Love Hewitt to Eliza Dushku all have either voiced their interest in playing the character or have been rumored to be interested. Well, throw another name into the hat of possible actresses, because South African actress Tanit Phoenix could be one more.

Over at WhatsPlaying there has been some talk that the South African actress who recently completed some work on the not so successful Warner Brothers film Lost Boys: The Thirst (which, if you haven't heard of, might be because it went straight to DVD) could play the next Wonder Woman- or at least get a screen test. While she definitely has the looks to play the part, does she really have the acting chops? While we don't see much of her acting skills in the official trailer, we do see why it went straight to DVD. Check that out below. Do you think Tanit Phoenix looks the part? Who do you want to see play Wonder Woman?

I just heard about this Lost Boys sequel........they shoulda left Cory out of the loop. I don't really have any strong emotions one way or the other about Tanit, although I will say she looks like the best option out of the other outrageous candidates.

She looks fine.

She certainly fits the physical requirements, but it will remain to be seen if she has the acting ability to pull off the Amazonian Princess.

Hmm. Not convinced, personally. I think the acting definitely comes before the body. Jaime Murray (Hustle, Dexter) I think would be a good candidate, she's been seen rocking Wondie's costume before in an episode of Hustle! Or Eliza Dushku who is superb and definitely physically ready, but seeing as it's no longer Joss Whedon it seems unlikely.

i really think it depends on the type of "spin" Kelley puts on the show to be honest...give me a hint to the series plot line then maybe an actress will come to mind for me. Phoenix isn't a bad option...but not good either.

@Gambit1024 lol you have a point, she certainly has the look but acting is another thing.

I say sign her up. She looks just like Wonder Woman.

She's lovely. So, an actress of Greek decent is asking too much? One thing few people don't realize that always surprised me. When they were casting for the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and were searching for the actor to play the Bulgarian, Viktor Krum. They were actually looking for someone who had Bulgarian background. How were people suppose to of known a Bulgarian from any other Eastern European nation? He only had a few lines.Though I think don't having a real Persian actor could of saved the Prince of Persia movie.  First three minutes of that movie I was asking myself, "What is Oliver Twist doing running through the rooftops of Persia?".

All that aside, what's important is her acting ability.  I'm worried that if the TV show doesn't go over well. A movie will become unlikely. They almost always have a problem with live action super hero movies. Superman has had a few, but they get boring fast. I enjoyed Smallville for the first few seasons, then things really started to go over the top silly.

I can see   Eliza Dushku as Wonder Woman.  She usually seems to play the strong female role believably.  I am unfamiliar with Phoenix though so I don't know if she would be a good wonder woman.

Wonder Woman movie is going to have to come next now. Better than anyone else playing the role.

Definitely has the looks to play Wonder Woman...so visually, wouldn't be such a horrible choice...
